There were somber-skies Saturday morning outside of New York City’s Hotel Pennsylvania. But that weather was no match for the heightened activity on inside. On the 18th floor of the midtown Manhattan hotel, excitement for the WBLS annual Wedding Expo could be felt instantaneously.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted with smiling faces while being ushered into the penthouse suite filled with vendors from all over the The Big Apple (and beyond). Every category from bakers, deejays, photographers, florists and masseuses could be found and a beautifully costumed belly-dancer even worked her skills for one vendor. Trust, if you had no intention of getting married, witnessing the energy during the expo; you were sure to catch the bridal itch.
Although there were a myriad of vendors specializing in the same goods and services, a select few caught Triple B’s attention. If you’re looking for deejays who can work genre from island tunes to old school soul classics, Brooklyn’s Triple Alliance First Class DJ’s were the vendors to beat. If you’re envisioning a floral haven for your wedding, be sure to consider Parris Petals. Their designs were simply flawless and head designer, Ellie, was as friendly as they come. While there was enough cake to satisfy any and every sweet tooth, the husband- and -wife team of Sydney’s Sweets literally “takes the cake.” They boast amazing designs, lush, creamy tastes and customer service skills to handle any frazzled bride. Wondering about hair and make-up? Don’t fret; MIZANI was on the scene and also served as a major sponsor for the event! (Hair tips pics of Mizani’s models for the day coming soon.)
Addressing make-up, particularly for this coming season of heat and humidity, lead makeup artist who worked her magic on the MIZANI models, Kenecia Lashae offered priceless advice for the bride-to-be. “To avoiding sweating off your look, start your regimen with an oil-free, anti-shine moisturizer,” Lashae advises. “Also use sheer, water-resistant foundation or a powder that absorbs,” she adds. For brides who are deeper in complexion, Lashae says highlighting is key. “The idea is to accentuate the quality of the skin which can be done with a concealer that warms up the [color].” She says brides should start under the eyes and blend down to the cheek.
Aside from all the music, sweets and flashing lights, guests were also treated to informative seminars. Couples were enlightened on how to build their relationships while staying fiscally afloat. Rounding out the experience was a highly- anticipated fashion show where five designers presented their take on bridal chic. Dresses ran the gamut between island bohemian to traditional styles from David’s Bridal. Although it would’ve been nice to see more bridal gowns, Triple B’s favorite pieces came from Exclusive Bridal. Based in Greenwich, CT, the designs were sleek and simple.
Whether you were going as a couple in need of some creative suggestions or as friends just curious about the bridal expo experience, WBLS had something for everyone.
