The Road to Mrs: Meet Nae!

I’m very pleased to announce Triple B has a brand new Road to Mrs. blogger! Meet Nae, a DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) based bride-to-be who personally reached out to me because she wanted to share with you all her musings on wedding planning. In addition to posting here, Nae maintains her own lifestyle blog, I Choose the Sun. Nae is scheduled to get hitched this June and will be blogging here every Thursday until then. Check out her story and don’t forget to leave her some love in the comments, y’all!

Hello bridal beauties! On June 1, 2013 I will marry my fiancé, Mr. DrummerBoy near our hometown of Washington, DC. After 10 years of dating, we got engaged shortly after the ball dropped on New Year’s Day 2012.

From the day we met, there has been nothing conventional about our relationship. The close friend of my younger sister at a time when I found her and her friends super annoying, I initially had no interest in Mr. DrummerBoy. Things changed the day after his best friend was killed in a motorcycle accident. I saw a different side of him and we began secretly dating. After a few months, we decided to finally tell my sister. Over a decade later and we often joke that we are complete opposites with nothing in common except for our souls – that’s good enough for us.

After reveling in the excitement of being engaged for months, Mr. DrummerBoy and I began planning for our big day last summer. We knew from the start that the most important aspect of our big day was that it represent us. With only 3 months to go and most of the major decisions made i.e. venue, bridal party, caterer and dress(!), we are now focused on the details that will make our special day just as unique as we are. I invite you to join me as I share our non-tradtional journey down the aisle.

Wedding planning can be quite overwhelming but through it all, this picture keeps me focused on what’s most important!

How did/do you keep it all together while wedding planning? Any advice for the next three months?

P.S. Although I love being a social media butterfly, my beloved prefers his privacy hence the moniker Mr. DrummerBoy.

    1. Congratulations Nae! I got engaged in January, and was married in May, so we had to get it all done in a short period of time. My advice is to enjoy it – every second – you’ll never have another time in your life like planning your wedding. Have fun! :)

      Congratulationson your upcoming nuptials Nae!

    3. Only you will know what “didn’t go as planned” on your wedding day. I’m not going to say don’t get upset over the little things, but sometimes it’s the little things that cause mini meltdowns. So just don’t wallow in the meltdowns. :-) Enjoy the experience and enjoy your day. Make sure your wedding is something that you ultimately want (decor, location, program), not what others want you to do. Unless someone else is paying for it, don’t fall for that “Our Marriage, Their Wedding” crap. LOLOL!!! Congrats doll!!

    4. Congrats, Nae! I’m so excited for you and pray that your special day and your marriage are all that your heart can hold. xoxo

    5. So glad I’m finding this site because my fiance’ and I will be getting married in August after getting engaged in December…We have so many things to do between now and then…Yikes, but one day at a time, I’m trusting God to help us work it all out:)

    6. Once again, I’m glad I have you as a ‘Big Sis’ — your ideas in preparation of the Big Day are clever and artfully executed!!

    7. Aww, this is so sweet! I can’t wait to hear about the countdown to your walk down the aisle.

    8. Congrats! I am also a June 2013 bride in the DMV. Right now my planner is my lifesaver, helping me tie up lose ends. I look forward to reading about your journey to the alter these next few months.

    10. Bridgette Bridgette says:

Oh and Jackie H. – I’m glad you found Triple B, too! Welcome to the family.

    11. Organization and patience are the keys to keeping your sanity during this process. Know what needs to be done when and have a realiable, designated “someone” who also keeps these tabs for you and can step in when you simply need to step away. Everything will not go as planned, and understanding and accepting that will help you move right along. It’s one day — a beautiful day, a lifelong memory, but it’s just the first day of the rest of your lives. Don’t let it drive you crazy. XOXO

    12. Wishing Nae all the best. I follow her blog and love keeping up with what she’s doing in social media. I love his title Mr. Drummer Boy. Too cute. Can’t wait to see the pictures of the wedding. Excited for her.

    13. Hey Nae! Hey! My advice – enjoy every second of it. And don’t sweat the small stuff. On your big day know that you did all you could to make it fabulous and guess what? No one but you will know if anything goes wrong! So relax, and enjoy it. And then, when the day comes, take it all in. It goes by way too fast. Remind yourself to constantly stay present so you can soak it all in. Love you lady.

    15. Vivrant Thang says:

I love this: “not much in common besides our souls.”

Reina gave you some great advice. It’s all about the both of you. I know it will be a wonderful day. Blessing to you and your boo :-)

    16. Congratulations! I got engaged in February, and we are bolting down the aisle in September. I’m keeping it together by just focusing on one thing at a time. Because we are on a budget, there’s no use stressing about the price of things. If we don’t have it, we don’t have it, and we move on to the next thing. The biggest tip I would have for you over the next 3 months is to be sure to just remember the marriage is most important. Don’t let the details of the big day get you so tense that you forget to focus on the Big Guys (the one up above, and your Drummer Boy!)

    17. Enjoy this time, Nae! Your wedding is going to be just as beautiful and wonderful as you are! Congratulations, again and again! :)

    18. Awwwww!! Congratulations, Nae!!! Enjoy every moment!! :-) HUGS :-)

Great advice in the comments today, folks!

    20. Hey Nae! My advice is pretty simple and mirrors a few others – enjoy it! Don’t allow outside forces to cause take you outside of your feeling of love and bliss. Engagements go fast as the details of the day creep up, but truly your wedding day will probably be one of the fastest days of your life. One thing that MrTDJ and I did was have my maid of honor grab us once each hour to go to the room I had dressed in to BREATHE. We took five minutes each other to simply smile, laugh, kiss and breathe with each other. I also had a journal in there and I jotted a few notes of things I wanted to be sure not to forget or discuss with him later. The memories that are formed now help to cement your marriage. (((hugs)))

    21. Congrats Nae!!!
Just remember that June 1 is a day that is to represent the love you have for one another. It can be hectic at times because you will have plenty of people wanting to make suggestions on how they think your day should be, make it aniut tou and him, yiu wont be able ti please everyone. Just sit back and enjoy because before u know it, it will all be over and you’ll be Mrs. Drummerboy!

    22. Thank you all for the wonderful advice and support! I truly appreciate it :)

    23. Congrats on your new blog home Nae!! I will def be keeping up with your blog. You are one of the sweetest most beautiful people I’ve ever met, warm from the moment I met you last year at Blogalicious. Wishing you and Mr. Drummerboy all the best!!!
