Would You Let Your Groom Plan the Entire Wedding?

Newlyweds Amanda and Ryan Leak

By now you’ve probably heard of Ryan Leak, the 27 year-old Florida newlywed who proposed to his now wife the same day they wed; after planning the entire wedding from soup to nuts by himself. Leak used the Pinterest page, entitled My Dream Wedding, of his new wife Amanda Roman, 25 to guide him through the planning process. Roman had over 200 images in her Pinterest wedding section. The couple said their “I Dos” before 100 guests in Miami on the 5 year anniversary of their first date. Oh and the pair’s honeymoon to Naples and Laguna Beach? Leak planned that too. (Leak, now an Internet superstar, released this video to document the experience.) The newly married couple has received tons of press but the feedback is conflicted. Many people (seemingly the majority) think Leak is the most romantic, thoughtful, sweetest guy on the planet. However some think he was selfish and egotistical to plan the entire affair himself.

Personally, I don’t know any dudes who have the desire or patience to pull something likeĀ  this off. And I know a lot of stand-up guys who are head-over-heels in love with their wives. This groom selected flowers, hired a hair stylist and makeup artist, devised a plan to purchase her gown and completed a bunch of other tasks that most men — and a whole lotta women for that matter — find boring and even painful. So Leak gets points for that alone. But I can’t help wondering if there was even a teeny, tiny bit of Roman that would have wanted to put in her two cents — beyond her Pinterest page — into her wedding day as well.

What do you all think? Was Leak’s act selfless or selfish? Sound off in the comments! I really want to know what you guys think about this one.

By the way: Tie the Knot Tuesday will return with a bang very soon. Thank you for your patience.

I’d like to think that I would be comfortable enough to do so, but I’ve been dreaming of this day for a long time. I can’t say that I would leave all of the planning in the capable hands of my man.

WOW! I’m impressed and would feel honored to have my mate do it all and just have me “show-up and do this.” You have to be very strong and self confident to put decision making power in someones hands and not be freaked out by the outcome. Primarily, I find it super exhilarating to witness someone pull off a huge feat.

2 words: HECK NO!!! First, I question why he would want to do it and secondly, why would his, now wife, be so disinterested in the process. I actually enjoyed the process with my fiance joining in when either asked or when he wanted to do so. It just sounds weird to me. But that’s just one Black woman’s opinion!

I agree 100% with Aunt Zee, that’s two Black women ‘s opinion!

It occurred after my last comment that one sided wedding planning was standard until very recently, by brides. At least in the post the bride weighed in with her likes and dislikes as a guide, Not all women enjoy the prep, pomp and circumstance of weddings. I’ve met many women that opt to go to the Justice of the Peace just for that reason. It’s a matter of preference, not right or wrong.
