Designer Amsale Aberra

On my way to the J. Crew Bridal Boutique yesterday (more on that soon), I passed the salon of one of my favorite wedding gown designers. I then realized that I’ve yet to mention the wonderful work of Amsale on Triple B! What a pity that is, too because Amsale is hand’s down one of the most highly regarded designers in the bridal game.

The Ethiopian-born designer started her bridal biz in 1985, after she had trouble finding a suitable dress for her own wedding. Fast forward to 2010, the wife and mother has an uber-successful fashion operation on NYC’s tony Madison Avenue and has even caught the attention of tastemakers like Halle Berry and Oprah. Her gorgeous gowns have appeared in films like 27 Dresses and prime-time shows such as Grey’s Anatomy. I think people flock to Amsale’s creation’s because she is a true designer — she understands the curves of the female form and her attention to detail is simply exquisite but never gaudy. While the majority of her collections fall in the high-end range ($5,000+) , she does have a more affordable line, as well. In addition to her freestanding NYC location, Amsale can be purchased at places like Mark Ingram and Kleinfelds. Be sure to check the site for specifics on all her current collections as well as additional availability.
