The Road to Mrs. – My Obsession with Etsy

Triple B's resident bride-to-be Nicole dishes on her Etsy wedding obsession.

Shortly after I started planning our wedding I discovered the website Etsy and now I’m a full blown addict.  The app is on both my iPad and iPhone and I visit the site several times a day. I’ve already ordered a cake topper, guest book and numerous wedding favors. I also have lots of items in my shopping cart just waiting on me to pull the trigger. I love Etsy. [Read more...]

The Road to Mrs. – My Adventures in Wedding Cake Tasting

Cake, Cake, Cake! Triple B's resident bride-to-be Nicole shares her adventures in wedding cake tastings.

Cake tasting has definitely been a highlight of the wedding planning process. Yes, I had committed to losing 10-15 pounds prior to my wedding in four short months, but this was something that had to be done. For the greater good, I sampled 13 delicious flavors of cake and frosting and did it guilt-free. With Leonard out of town, I enlisted the help of my grandmother and MOH, Heather. They too, were happy to indulge. [Read more...]

The Road to Mrs. – Choosing My Wedding Party

Triple B's resident bride-to-be and her maid of honor, Heather!

A year ago, Leonard and I packed up and moved to Los Angeles. With no friends or family in town we spent most of our time together and became best friends. So when we got engaged, my initial thought was this day should be about us and us alone…no wedding party (yes, my narcissism flared up). With my wedding being small and intimate, it was already the case that everyone there was special to us. All of my friends would be traveling to LA and I didn’t want to burden them with the additional cost associated with being a bridesmaid. It was Leonard who convinced me otherwise. He had already decided that he wanted to have his lifelong friends at his side. They’d all been best friends since grade school and shared all of their life experiences together. To him, this was no exception. [Read more...]

The Road to Mrs – Saying Yes to the Dress

Triple B's resident bride-to-be Nicole (in pink) enlisted the help of her girls to find her dream wedding dress!

Once I was engaged, the thing I looked forward to the most was finding my wedding dress. All ten of the wedding apps I’d downloaded to my iPad said I needed to do this 7-9 months prior to the date. I was already behind schedule. Having watched every single episode of every single wedding show on TLC, I knew exactly what I wanted. Only problem was I was in Los Angeles…alone. Initially I thought I’d go into a bridal salon and pick out a dress solo so that everyone would be surprised when I walked down the aisle. But the more I thought about it, the more I knew I needed some assistance and support. I needed my girls. [Read more...]

Marriage Matters Monday – 5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Tying the Knot

Your honey popped the question so you’re ready to start planning your wedding. Sure you understand the marriage is bigger than the wedding — Duh!  You love your future spouse and have no doubts that he (or she) is who you want to say “I Do” to during that ceremony you have already begun meticulously planning.

After the bridal dust has settled and the honeymoon is (literally) over, the marriage begins. Even couples who live together before jumping the broom are likely to experience “growing pains” after their nuptials. Asking yourself the below questions then discussing your honest answers to those questions with your partner while still engaged is wise and will help you gain a better sense of self. [Read more...]

The Road to Mrs. – Romance & Finance

Road to Mrs. blogger Nicole and her fiance Leonard are learning how to compromise before saying I Do.

Being an only child, I’d never not gotten what I wanted. And being an attorney, I’d become very good at negotiating. So when my fiancé and I sat down to discuss our wedding and, most importantly, our wedding budget, I had very few worries. My vision was full of lavishness while his involved us going to the courthouse. In the end, we settled on a number that would allow me the wedding of my dreams, albeit with a much smaller guest list. His reasoning for not wanting to go overboard with the spending made absolute sense, and while I understood his point, admittedly I looked at the budget number as a suggestion — kind of the same way I look at speeding limits. (Not Quite) Tie the Knot Tuesday – Lisa & Preston Proposal Video

Proposal videos go viral on the Web faster than chicken pox spreads in a first grade classroom. Many of them are corny or just overdone but there are still some that manage to make us stop and say “Awww!” out loud. Today’s (Not Quite) Tie the Knot Tuesday video isn’t the most elaborate we’ve seen but there is a true sweetness about it and I appreciate that the groom-to-be — and a very proud member of Omega Psi Phi, Inc. — Preston took the time to submit it to Triple B. (Yep, fellas check out BlackBridalBliss.com too.)

Preston shares, “Lisa and I actually grew up together across the street from each other in Harlem, NYC. We lost contact for like 30 years.” He continues, “I found her on Facebook last year and we started a friendship again.” Now the couple is preparing to jump the broom in a destination wedding in Jamaica, WI.

Enjoy the video!
