Bride-to-be Jene sometimes wears her naturally curly 'do...
I know this is a break from my norm, but this week I would like to expound on another Triple B entry: Wedding Day Hair Drama: Natural Versus Straight. About three years ago I made the decision to get off the “creamy crack” and go natural. I would tell anyone who would listen; my ultimate goal was to have a big Jill Scott afro. [click to continue…]

Jene and her fiance Royshawn have officially begun the six month countdown to their September wedding!
Hey Triple B! I missed you guys last week. I was down with a cold and wasn’t able to post. I am happy to be back on my feet and really glad to be back with you guys.
The realization that my wedding day is six months away has begun to settle in, and I am officially freaking out. While we have solidified quite a few things already, there is still so much left to do and time is speeding by. [click to continue…]

Contrary to popular belief, many Black couples choose counseling before they say "I Do".
When Shawn and I decided to take our relationship to the next level I had one condition to marriage and that was pre-marital counseling. There was no doubt in my mind that I loved this man and wanted to be his wife. But I don’t care how many sappy love songs you play, it is not true that “Love Is All We Need”. In a successful relationship you also need patience, communication and understanding. He and I are both of a certain age (in my Wendy Williams voice) and along with age comes being settled in your ways and slow to compromise, which can be the death of any relationship. Triple B's resident bride-to-be Jene and her teenage daughter, Tylesha
Being a bride who is also a single parent to a teenager has its own unique challenges. My daughter Tylesha has been one of the biggest hurdles in my relationship. There was a time I was unsure if Shawn and I would survive Hurricane Tylesha. I was very young when I had Ty, so we basically grew up together. My Stinkey (my affectionate nickname for Ty – don’t judge me, LOL) was my shadow. We did everything together: vacations, restaurants, shows. You name it, we did it. While I did date, she was never privy to that, as far as she was concerned it was always “Mommy and Me” time. [click to continue…]

Being an upcoming bride, who is trying to lose weight for my big day, my relationship with food is a constant struggle. Although I am getting married I know food and weight issues are definitely not exclusive to a bride. [click to continue…]

Triple B's resident bride-to-be is finding her way in the world of portion control.
Hey Triple B, I hope everyone’s week was well. As far as my diet is concerned, for the most part mine was great. However, Friday was a challenging day. I met some girlfriends for dinner at Carmines. If you are familiar with Carmines [in New York City] you already know their mammoth size family style portions of Italian fare can be any dieter’s nemesis. I handled it well, if I do say so myself. I gave myself permission to enjoy for the evening. Evoking an 80/20 rule of sorts, the Dieter’s edition.
