Today’s featured expert is makeup artist Andrea Fairweather of Fairweather Faces. Andrea has been doing her thing for over 20 years and has provided her services to over 300 brides! But what makes this interview special is that I met Andrea as a college student over a decade ago. I was modeling in a hair show (Don’t judge me.) and Andrea was the makeup artist. As a dark skin woman, I was extremely skeptical about her choosing flattering shades for my complexion.
Hey there! Today we have an *exclusive* interview with cosmetic dentist and owner of VIP Smiles Dr. Catrise-Austin. Dr. Austin is also the author of “5 Steps to the Hollywood A-List Smile”. This bi-coastal dental vet has worked with some of your favorite entertainers like Eva Marcille, Missy Elliot and Common. Read on for her expert tips on getting and maintaining sparkly pearly whites, investing in an easy fix for crooked teeth and achieving a picture perfect smile for your big day even if you have little to no dental insurance! What do Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah have in common? Besides being real bosses, they all get their digits pampered by manicurist Lisa Logan. (She actually did both Beyonce and hubby Jay-Z’s nails for their hush-hush 2008 nuptials!) The New York City based beauty vet graciously took time from her busy schedule to chat with Triple B about getting fingers and toes prepped for that walk down the aisle.
When I decided to launch Triple B, I knew that one of my first interviews would have to be with a hairstylist who specializes in tending to natural strands. Who better to fulfill this burning interview request of mine than natural hair guru, Arlette Pender of Hairloks by Arlette? The Brooklyn bred, Arizona-based stylist has been on her hair grind for over 30 years and has worked with notable clients like Kelis, N’Bushe Wright, Essence and Vibe magazines. Here, Pender dishes the 411 on proper maintenance, the downfalls of beeswax and the style surprises in craft stores for naturally-coifed brides-to-be preparing for their big day.
Every woman wants to look naturally radiant on her wedding day, right? But with a hectic work schedule, debates with the planner over flowers and cake and trying to ensure your gown fits perfectly, that trip to the dermatologist keeps dropping further and further down your to-do list.
Well fret not. I chatted with skincare expert Dr. Susan Taylor and got the 411 on how to ensure your skin is flawless for the big day. Taylor is the author of the highly regarded tome, Brown Skin: Dr. Susan Taylor’s Prescription for Flawless Skin, Hair and Nails (Amistad) and also the genius behind the product line Rx for Brown Skin which has been praised by publications like Allure and Essence so she certainly knows her stuff. (I personally have fallen in love with the Ultra-Gentle Cleanser from the Bright and Healthy line; it makes my combination skin feel silky smooth!) Read on to find out why you shouldn’t get a facial on the same day you plan to say “I Do”, how your hubby-to-be can avoid razor bumps and why H20 should become one of your best friends in the weeks leading up to your nuptials. Second Time Around: If at first you don’t succeed, try again. Thank goodness newlyweds Cleo and Lyncoln took heed to this sage advice. After meeting through friends, the duo immediately hit it off and started dating. “Cleo seemed down to earth and we had good conversation,” explains Lyncoln. However the pair decided to take things slow after a few months of courting but agreed to stay in touch and remain friends. “During that time apart, I constantly found myself thinking about him and he wasn’t even my boyfriend,” admits Cleo with a laugh. A chance meeting at a mutual friend’s party in Philly rekindled their sparks and the couple decided to give their love another chance. They haven’t looked back since. [Read more...]
