A Tie the Knot Tuesday alum dishes on her first year of marriage
I was so excited to discover an essay from a Tie the Knot Tuesday alum on BlackandMarriedwithKids.com last week! Gwen and Endion recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary and Gwen penned an honest and heartwarming piece about those 365 days. Check it out:

Marriage Matters Presents: The Hodges!
I’ve always felt the following went without saying but here goes: The only people who truly know what’s going on in a marriage are the two in it. Period. Still, I get sheer joy from featuring those (seemingly) happy marriages of Black women who are rarely portrayed on the big and small screen, on the radio, in magazines and on the Web. As you’ve noticed with previous Marriage Matters couples, I purposely highlight folks that are “young” yet have been married a decade or longer because they’ve passed the honeymoon stage of wedded bliss but can still relate to you nearlyweds and newlyweds.

Newlyweds Tewanna and Marshall have incorporated one of their wedding gifts into a sweet couple's ritual.
First and foremost, my apologies for the MIA Tie the Knot Tuesday feature yesterday. Trust me, I’m twenty times more bummed about it than you. Don’t fret, it will return next week.
Those of you planning your nuptials are inevitably going to register for gifts with your spouse-to-be, right? Keep reading! And those of you who aren’t but always get daunted by bridal registries and have a heap of weddings to attend this summer — this post is for you, too! I polled my Tie the Knot Tuesday alum for the inside scoop on what gifts they actually use most since saying “I Do”. All of the responses are honest and many will surprise you. (What I learned: It isn’t always the most expensive gift that gets the most love.)

Are you and your spouse up for the challenge?
Our friends over at Black and Married with Kids are preparing to wrap up a pretty exciting exercise called The Be a Better Spouse Challenge. If you’re married or are about to be and it isn’t already on your radar, please take note. Just reading through the challenges that have already taken place like writing an impromptu love letter or engaging in his/her favorite activity seem so fun! And don’t worry, none of the challenges are time-sensitive so you can and should certainly still get in on the fun. Why not start from the beginning and work your way forward? If you and your wife or husband decide to join in, be sure to let the folks over at BMWK know that Triple B sent ya. (The best thing about this challenge is there are no losers, only winners!)

What do you think of BET's new sitcom?
Every now and again I need to check in with you all about the ways that Black marriages (and committed relationships of Black folks across the board) are portrayed in popular culture. On my mind this morning is BET’s new sitcom Let’s Stay Together.
