The touchy subject of the importance (or not) of engagement ring size has been covered here…and here on Triple B by Cousin Mars. But, I’ve never actually delved into the subject myself — until today. As of late, I’ve noticed a lotta folks posting pictures of rings similar to the one above on social media and the comments have been very telling. I’ve read things like: [Read more…]
Ladies (and fellas because I know some of y’all are reading too), do you remember your initial reaction to hearing Beyonce’s Put a Ring On It song? We all know one of the first things asked after a woman says she is engaged is “Let me see the ring!” How many people do you know have very little knowledge of precious gems, but can tell you exactly what the Four Cs references? Have you ever wondered why there is an expectation (by most though not all) that a diamond accompanies a proposal? Well, this Final Friday post aims to share a jewel about one of your favorite jewels – DIAMONDS. If you have ever thought why society has come to expect a diamond to accompany a proposal I’m about to share just how and when this tradition began.
Did you know that Etsy, the go-to online resource for every DIY (do-it-yourself) bride on the planet, has a wide selection of wedding bands? Honestly I didn’t until very recently. Mr. TK and I are beginning the –slightly daunting — process of searching for wedding bands (admittedly a little late) and I was overwhelmed by all the factors to consider: How will the band complement my engagement ring? How will our bands complement each others? Do we go matchy-matchy or not? What should we budget for bands? Should we get them engraved? Sheesh! [Read more…]
So, Beyonce said “If you liked it, then you should’ve put a ring on it.” S. Carter turned around and put an 18-carat ring on it. Well, my last name ain’t Carter and unfortunately I don’t currently have his money. However, Mr. Carter doesn’t have Mark Zuckerberg money and it has been reported that Mark spent under $2k for the engagement ring he purchased for Priscilla Chan. Clearly people have different ideas of what should be spent on an engagement ring. [Read more…]
You, read correctly. Fifty. Eight. Dollars! Who knew it was possible to purchase a diamond engagement ring or wedding band under the same roof as toilet paper and laundry detergent (and in some states guns)? Walmart has recently expanded their assortment of quality diamond jewelry for every budget, with a wide selection of engagement rings and other bridal jewelry all under $1,000. The bargain retailer even offers layaway year-round on all jewelry purchases. [Read more…]
My BFF who has been married for eight years and counting misplaced her wedding band a few years ago and it obviously caused her a considerable amount of angst — but truthfully I think I was more concerned than she was. Said friend took her ring off while doing some housework and the ring didn’t resurface until months later. A former co-worker accidentally washed her engagement ring down the drain. Yikes! Although her hubby was pissed, he eventually purchased a new one for her and their marriage is still in tact. I am willing to bet both of these women wish they had a CareRing to prevent these mishaps.
I often hear folks complain about the homogenous aesthetic of engagement rings and wedding bands. If you’re one of those people that like to think out the box — or your significant other is — then put Studio of Ptah on your radar now. The brand is a fave of trendsetters like Erykah Badu and is filled with African inspired yellow gold, white gold, pink gold and silver pieces. Take a look at the engagement rings and wedding bands and notice the incorporation of the ankh throughout the collections. Asian and Native American cultures are often used as inspiration for these custom pieces as well.
I recently stumbled across a list of wedding etiquette mantras while doing some research for Triple B and came to the conclusion that most of them were simply archaic. I thought to myself, ‘Are people really still doing this stuff and if so…why?’ Check out my list of The Top 5 Outdated Wedding Rules and then weigh in on whether or not you agree. And oh yeah, Happy Monday!
