Jene with two of her bridesmaids during happier times...
Okay, it’s official. I had my first bride-to-be melt down moment. It has all been so easy thus far, that is until it came down to dress shopping for the bridal party. Can you say EPIC FAIL?

The Ambi Bridal line from Nael Coce! (l to r: Charm & Eternity)
I recently traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to attend the launch of a fabulous new shoe line, Nael Coce. Nael Coce is the brainchild of PhD (yeah, you read that correctly) student, Sheena Young. Sheena’s mission was to create a line of footwear that was both fashionable and functional. This line actually offers “convertible” shoes — a pair of comfy ballet flats and pumps in one. Kinda genius, right? And there’s a few bridal options, too! [click to continue…]

Bride-to-be Jene sometimes wears her naturally curly 'do...
I know this is a break from my norm, but this week I would like to expound on another Triple B entry: Wedding Day Hair Drama: Natural Versus Straight. About three years ago I made the decision to get off the “creamy crack” and go natural. I would tell anyone who would listen; my ultimate goal was to have a big Jill Scott afro. [click to continue…]

Few topics get Black women to go from 0 to 90 in a mili-second like the talk of hair. When I decided to address the issue of brides wearing their hair kinky, curly, wavy, twisted and in locs for their wedding day I knew I was signing myself up to receive very strong opinions. But reading this post from Tia Williams of Shake Your Beauty gave me the final push to post about this pink, striped, polka dot, plaid elephant in the room.

Actress Keke Palmer is flawless in this wedding day ready hairdo!
Keke Palmer is one of those actresses I feel is underrated in Hollywood. Besides her acting chops, I’m partial to Miss Palmer because I met her a few years back while working at Essence and in addition to being talented she’s a sweetheart. So it is no surprise that when I viewed these adorable images of her on the red carpet, I immediately gushed. Keke opted to rock this look for the premiere of her last film Joyful Noise but it can totally work for a bride on her wedding day, too.

Guess who the latest bridge designer line is to go the bridal route? Bebe! That’s right, joining their peers J.Crew and many other mall faves Bebe will soon offer gowns for those preparing to say “I Do”. Your bridesmaids will thank you!
Most brides struggle with the decision of what to give their bridal party as a token of appreciation. And for good reason, these women (and in some cases men) have likely cried with you, laughed with you and hopefully threw you an unforgettable bachelorette party and bridal shower. The list of items that work as possible bridesmaids gifts is virtually endless but I recently discovered one more. To put it frankly Triple B, Voluspa Ceramic Macaron Candles are the ish!

Soliloquy Bridal Boutique is taking the DMV by Storm!
Anytime I get the opportunity to feature Black female entrepreneurs on Triple B (which is done quite often), I get excited and today is no exception. Read all about
Soliloquy Bridal Boutique, the awesome brainchild of Savannah-native Miriam Liggett. This former corporate executive and fellow bridal junkie opened the doors of Soliloquy in Northern Virginia in November 2011 and the retail establishment is already all the buzz in the DMV (Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia) area. Don't let a little snow ruin your bridal fashion.
Technically winter is still a couple of months away but here in the Northeast U.S. we were treated to an early debut just this weekend. It got me to thinking about all those fall/winter brides who might be struggling with ways to stay warm on their big day. We already know there are huge financial benefits to getting hitched during off-peak times of year but the bridal fashion choices don’t immediately seem as plentiful. Don’t fret, just check out these winter wedding suggestions that aren’t just stylish but affordable, too.

Rings & Things
I often hear folks complain about the homogenous aesthetic of engagement rings and wedding bands. If you’re one of those people that like to think out the box — or your significant other is — then put Studio of Ptah on your radar now. The brand is a fave of trendsetters like Erykah Badu and is filled with African inspired yellow gold, white gold, pink gold and silver pieces. Take a look at the engagement rings and wedding bands and notice the incorporation of the ankh throughout the collections. Asian and Native American cultures are often used as inspiration for these custom pieces as well.
