Bride-to-be Jene sometimes wears her naturally curly 'do...

I know this is a break from my norm, but this week I would like to expound on another Triple B entry: Wedding Day Hair Drama: Natural Versus Straight. About three years ago I made the decision to get off the “creamy crack” and go natural. I would tell anyone who would listen; my ultimate goal was to have a big Jill Scott afro.  [click to continue…]

Bride-to-be Jene has been getting lots of love from her friends since getting engaged!

I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of people ever since Shawn and I have become engaged.  It’s funny, as a cynical New Yorker I was gearing up to deflect the shade I was sure would come with making such an announcement.  Surprisingly, for the most part my experience has been just the opposite.  Stating with the support and encouragement I have gotten from Triple B.  When I first began blogging on Triple B I was nervous about opening up and putting myself out there.  But what a great choice it was to do it.  I am so grateful to the Triple B family for their acceptance.

Bridal Beauty: Wedding Day Hair

by Bridgette on March 9, 2012

Actress Keke Palmer is flawless in this wedding day ready hairdo!

Keke Palmer is one of those actresses I feel is underrated in Hollywood. Besides her acting chops, I’m partial to Miss Palmer because I met her a few years back while working at Essence and in addition to being talented she’s a sweetheart. So it is no surprise that when I viewed these adorable images of her on the red carpet, I immediately gushed. Keke opted to rock this look for the premiere of her last film Joyful Noise but it can totally work for a bride on her wedding day, too.

Jene and her fiance Royshawn have officially begun the six month countdown to their September wedding!

Hey Triple B! I missed you guys last week. I was down with a cold and wasn’t able to post. I am happy to be back on my feet and really glad to be back with you guys.

The realization that my wedding day is six months away has begun to settle in, and I am officially freaking out. While we have solidified quite a few things already, there is still so much left to do and time is speeding by. [click to continue…]

Bebe Goes Bridal!

Guess who the latest bridge designer line is to go the bridal route? Bebe! That’s right, joining their peers J.Crew and many other mall faves Bebe will soon offer gowns for those preparing to say “I Do”. Unfortunately our resident bride-to-be Jene is sick and was unable to write her post this week. Feel better, Jene! Hopefully she’ll be back next week, rested up and ready to take us further along on her wedding planning journey.

In the meantime, please check out the below video trailer that Lamar over at Black and Married with Kids shared with me. It features the soulful R&B duo Kindred discussing the apex of marriage. Very enlightening; especially because I was one of those people who used to think that getting married was the relationship finish line so to speak — hey, I’m being honest. How refreshing is it to see modern Black married couples openly speak on the highs and lows of marriage in a way that isn’t pompous or judgmental?

The complete video is on sale beginning May 1st and promises to include a diverse group of couples to provide transparent and insightful conversation about what it takes to have lasting power in current day marriages. Through infidelity, chronic illness, financial crisis and more these couples explain why and how they are still standing.

Awesome Bridesmaid Gifts: Voluspa Candles

by Bridgette on February 17, 2012

in Beauty,Uncategorized

Your bridesmaids will thank you!

Most brides struggle with the decision of what to give their bridal party as a token of appreciation. And for good reason, these women (and in some cases men) have likely cried with you, laughed with you and hopefully threw you an unforgettable bachelorette party and bridal shower. The list of items that work as possible bridesmaids gifts is virtually endless but I recently discovered one more. To put it frankly Triple B, Voluspa Ceramic Macaron Candles are the ish!

Triple B's resident bride-to-be Jene and her teenage daughter, Tylesha

Being a bride who is also a single parent to a teenager has its own unique challenges. My daughter Tylesha has been one of the biggest hurdles in my relationship. There was a time I was unsure if Shawn and I would survive Hurricane Tylesha. I was very young when I had Ty, so we basically grew up together. My Stinkey (my affectionate nickname for Ty – don’t judge me, LOL) was my shadow. We did everything together: vacations, restaurants, shows. You name it, we did it. While I did date, she was never privy to that, as far as she was concerned it was always “Mommy and Me” time. [click to continue…]
