Those of you who follow Triple B regularly on Instagram are familiar with our daily “Morning Muse” posts. We recently highlighted the above pic and had to share it here on the blog too. The lovely bride Zondra tagged us on this pic and to our surprise shared that the image was captured in…wait for it…Mississippi! (Yeah, shocked us too.) [Read more…]

Howdy! It might seem hard to believe but we have not abandoned Tie the Knot Tuesday. One of the things we enjoy about weddings here at Black Bridal Bliss is that although there are many similarities in each, every single one is distinctive. Take the nuptials of Kesha and Steven of Maryland, for instance (we initially featured them in Tie the Knot Tuesday last year). While their wedding on the surface seemed classic and pretty traditional, it in fact was injected with several unique touches such as liturgical dancers during the ceremony and a surprise Latin-inspired first dance that even their wedding party didn’t know about! The best part? Their touching and relatable love story. Check it out:
This feature is extra-special for Triple B (well, every Tie the Knot Tuesday wedding is but…) because of the sense of community it displays. Bride Akida was honest about not having an active relationship with her biological father and therefore opted to be escorted down the aisle by her longtime swim coach and mentor, Jim Ellis. “I attended college on a swim scholarship largely because of him,” she shared. Ellis is the same swim coach that the film Pride was based on (actor Terrance Howard played him in the movie). It takes a village. Remember, Triple is is bigger than weddings. Enjoy today’s [Read more…]
In August of 2009 I was a nervous 18 year-old moving cross-country to New York City to begin my first year at New York University (NYU). Being that NYU is the largest private institution in the country and a PWI (predominately White institution), I mentally prepared myself to go through four years with a minimal amount of friends; after all, I was an introvert and school was the priority. If you would have told me that during my first week on my own in a new city I would meet the man who I would spend the rest of my life with, I would have literally laughed out loud. But that’s exactly what happened. [Read more…]
After five years (whew!) of featuring awesome couples and their nuptials here on Triple B we’ve gotten quite a bit of content in our archives. Today we revisit an interview with our first Tie the Knot Tuesday couple, Cleo and Lyncoln Dujon. The Maryland couple first shared their insider videographer tips and tricks here. However, their insight — the couple comes clean on budgets and not initially agreeing on the need for a videographer — is still relevant so enjoy! [Read more…]
I think we have all heard the term “I Got Your Back.” I know it isn’t grammatically correct, but let’s ignore that for now. Growing up with siblings and/or other close relatives is what allows most kids the first opportunity to use this expression. As we grow older our circle begins to include friends. If you’re anything like me, you have many stories of how you’ve proven this mantra. Perhaps even better stories regarding how it was proven to you by others. I’d share a few, but the statute of limitations in New York and the District of Columbia are a bit fuzzy in some cases. [Read more…]

Working with Black Bridal Bliss has afforded me the opportunity to interview scores of brides-to-be and women that have already jumped the broom. Two questions I often ask these individuals are: 1) What does marriage mean to you? and 2) What is/was your biggest fear entering marriage? The answers have been so entertaining and/or awe inspiring. Here’s part three in this enlightening feature. I invite you to revisit the first and second essays as well. You’re welcome. [Read more…]
Valentine’s Day marks an unofficial end of “engagement season” for the wedding industry and as of last weekend there are a lot more newly engaged folks checking out Triple B. Welcome!
I technically had two weddings. No, I didn’t deplete my 401K for this. In fact, both ceremonies combined cost less than the national average for weddings. Full disclosure: My husband and I were extremely fortunate to receive many perks during planning as a result of me being a bridal blogger. And we had a lot of financial help from family. But still, we were tempted to go over our set budget several times. We got plenty of practice flexing those sacrifice and compromise muscles during our planning process and good thing we did because those muscles are needed quite a bit during marriage.
The reason I have no regrets – even when I have to make a dollar stretch more than I’m used to as a new wife? Keep reading… [Read more…]
