Marriage Matters Monday – What’s in a Name?

I recall how much angst one of my girlfriends went through after she got married and didn’t want to change her last name right away. She eventually hyphenated it but she put it off as long as possible. Her husband was not amused. The pair is (seemingly) happily married and even joke about my friend’s name change delay now but my friend experienced much more separation anxiety than she thought she would. I’ve since heard many women share similiar sentiments about the emotional challenges of changing their name after saying “I Do”. Crazy or common? [Read more...]

MUST-SEE Wedding Trailer – Tish & Eric

Watch the breathtaking nuptials of Tish Graves & Eric Dawkins!

The “Here Comes the Bride” sign carrier is adorable. The snippets of the couple and their guests offering commentary throughout the video remind me of Three Ring Media‘s fresh documentary style videography. The bride is freakin’ gorgeous. And I love that she kept her hair curly for her wedding day. The venue is so charming (I have a thing for at-home weddings…This home happens to belong to actor/singer Tyrese but it was intimate and magical; not pretentious.) The song selections were kinda perfect. The groom has a palpable sense of humor and it was allowed to shine in this video. Did I mention the bride is gorgeous? It seemed as though all the guests were genuinely beaming with happiness for the couple.

Don’t believe any of this or think I’m exaggerating? Just watch. [Read more...]

The Road to Mrs. – Guest List Invitations and Seating, Oh My!

It is amazing how many presumptive inquiries Mr. DrummerBoy and I began receiving after announcing our engagement. Questions like “Have you picked your colors yet? I like to try and coordinate with the wedding party” and statements like “I hope you’re inviting a good proportion of single men and women so that I can meet someone.” Ummm…Really? [Read more...]

The Road to Mrs. – My Style to the Aisle Bridal Expo Recap

Triple B's Road to Mrs. blogger Nae shares the 411 on DC's Style to the Aisle Bridal Show!

Last weekend I attended the Style to the Aisle, A Bride’s Runway event at L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, D.C. Created by Michelle Davis of Memorable Moments Event Planning Co. in Baltimore, MD, this one-of-a-kind bridal fashion event brings brides face to face with designers, bridal boutiques, models, photographers, makeup artists and hair stylists. This event is different from most bridal shows/expos in that it is centered around Michelle’s belief that the aisle is a bride’s personal runway and every bride is a celebrity on their special day. Who can argue with that? [Read more...]

The Road to Mrs. – Sanctity of the Wedding Ceremony

Our Road to Mrs. blogger Nae shares her wedding ceremony wishlist.

I was recently asked by a family member which sanctuary we would be using for our wedding ceremony. My immediate response (courtesy of a combination of being my mother’s child and sharing my fiancé’s penchant for snark) was “we’re having our ceremony in the original sanctuary – the garden”. Religious traditions and sarcasm aside, this reminded me of the significance of the wedding ceremony and how most of the time the focus of the wedding is often the reception. [Read more...]

Tie the Knot Tuesday – Weddings with Unique Cultural Touches

Bride Mirlaine enjoys waving her Haitian flag with guests during her wedding reception!

By now we (hopefully) all know the historical and cultural significance of jumping the broom during a wedding ceremony. However, it isn’t the only way for those of the African Diaspora to show their cultural appreciation during a wedding. Below is a round-up of past Tie the Knot Tuesday couples that found creative ways to inject a little dose of culture into their big day. Enjoy and be inspired! [Read more...]

Black Bridal Bliss – The Point of It All

Triple B's Tie the Knot Tuesday alums Stephanie & Delano!

Just when I get frustrated by life’s inevitable tests, I receive an email like the one excerpted below. The unsolicited heartfelt message below was emailed to me from a regular Triple B reader/visitor in Maryland. It almost brought me to tears. I’ve always felt this site was about more than weddings. So much more…And clearly this woman agrees. [Read more...]

The Road to Mrs. – My Fiance Has a Groomsmaid

Triple B's Road to Mrs. blogger Nae opens up about her unconventional bridal party...And why she wouldn't have it any other way!

Choosing a bridal party is a significant step in planning your wedding. Some opt to forego an entourage and keep the focus of the big day on the two coming together as one. As has become par for our course, Mr. DrummerBoy and I went about choosing our wedding day companions in a completely different manner.
