On the evening of Thursday, May 22 in downtown Manhattan, friends of Triple B gathered to celebrate four exciting years of BlackBridalBliss.com with cupcakes, cocktails and lots of laughs! A good time was had by all. See for yourself — check out pics from our fun soiree: [Read more...]

Wedding Date: October 19, 2013
Wedding and Reception Location: Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture – Charlotte, NC
I have interviewed over 100 brides and dozens of wedding planners and other bridal industry experts in my career. I’ve been tapped by media outlets like ESSENCE, The Huffington Post and UPTOWN for my bridal expertise. I have enough bridal magazines and wedding books in my home to drive Mr. TK nuts. (I’m working on the pack rat tendencies, babe!) Still, none of this made me totally prepared for the emotional roller coaster I rode for my own wedding. Here are the top five things I learned while taking that ride and how you can attempt to buckle up for them, too: [Read more...]
Well folks, the deed was done. On Saturday, October 19, 2013, I jumped the broom with my best friend in front of roughly 115 loved ones. (We actually wed a month prior in a much smaller ceremony — I promise to elaborate more on that later.) In a word, last weekend was bliss.
Mr. TK and I are still sleepwalking and aren’t scheduled to return to our normal (whatever that means) schedules until next week. Still, I wanted to give you all a glimpse into our nuptials to hold you over until the official Tie the Knot Tuesday feature next month. Below is hand’s down one of my favorite moments from the big day: [Read more...]
The great news: I made it to Charlotte! Hello, Bojangles and hearing folks say “reckon” regularly. I’m about as Southern as a New York gal can be so it isn’t too much of a surprise to most of my friends that I wanted to jump the broom in North Carolina. Time is flying by. Here’s what I have on the itinerary for today:
Last night I received unfortunate news regarding a loved one. The news wasn’t life-threatening and might help said person in the long run but I spent a good portion of my evening consumed with it instead of finishing this list. I still don’t have escort cards, I didn’t go to snapfish.com to get signs printed and I missed the Martha Stewart Weddings Fiesta. On a brighter side, I got my nails and eyelashes done yesterday — WOO HOO. Check this Instagram nail video for a fun play by play. Here’s what I’m hoping to accomplish today: [Read more...]
Today’s gonna be a doozy! I’ve been up since 5ish this morning sending emails and making lists. There’s still more lists to write, too. (Mr. TK thinks I make too many lists but my mother has warned him I inherited that from my dad. “She got it honest,” she told him. They now have lots of conversations about me in front of me; they’re too funny.) Here’s what is on my list for today: [Read more...]
Yesterday was productive. While I didn’t complete all the tasks on my to-do list, I finished most of them and even did a few important things that weren’t on the list. (Ahem, my wedding band was finally selected and purchased — WOO HOO!) I realized that not only was my friend Lisa’s advice to post this wedding countdown important for the Triple B audience but it will also hold me accountable. (By the way if you’re ever in NYC and need a mani or pedi, check Lisa out at The Nail Suite by Lisa Logan. Yes that was definitely a shameless plug.) Here’s what I hope to accomplish today and tomorrow: [Read more...]
Happy Friday! Guess what? I’m scheduled to jump the broom a week from tomorrow. That’s right! One. Week. From. Tomorrow. Although I’ve been blogging on Triple B for Road to Mrs. periodically, I have managed to remain sorta tight-lipped about the details of my wedding. (When it is all said and done there will actually be two weddings but more on that later.) My good friend Lisa pointed out my covertness the other night over calamari and catfish tenders. Our convo went something like this:
Lisa: Bridge, people will relate to you more on BBB if you shared the details of your day-to-day.
Me: Yeah, but you know I’m kinda private and so is Mr. TK. Plus, I have been blogging about it in Road to Mrs.
Lisa: (rolling her eyes) That’s not enough. You launched a bridal blog and you’re getting married. You’ve shared so many details about other brides yet you’re keeping all the good stuff about yourself to yourself. That could turn people off.
Lisa: How about a countdown! That’s fun and exciting and you can be honest about all the ish you still have to do. Be vulnerable like you were when you first announced you were engaged. People will relate to that.
And so here it is, folks. The first day of my 1 week wedding day countdown. I even plan to blog tomorrow. (Not Sunday though. The buck has to stop somewhere.) Below is my to-do list for today. Let’s see how much of this I can actually get accomplished. [Read more...]
One of the highlights in my wedding planning process which is quickly coming to a close was my bridal shower and bachelorette weekend. After posting about them on numerous occasions as a resource for other brides, I was a little nervous about what type of fete I would have myself. Contrary to what many predicted, I opted not to do the Miami or Vegas jaunt but definitely still had a ball! Here’s why: [Read more...]

Just when I get frustrated by life’s inevitable tests, I receive an email like the one excerpted below. The unsolicited heartfelt message below was emailed to me from a regular Triple B reader/visitor in Maryland. It almost brought me to tears. I’ve always felt this site was about more than weddings. So much more…And clearly this woman agrees. [Read more...]
Since my last post about my upcoming wedding, my fiance and I have made some small yet significant progress. We’ve narrowed down the area we want our nuptials to take place and our wedding day budget plus we zeroed in on a time frame. We’re also continuing those sometimes challenging conversations about combining finances and being truthful about our expectations after exchanging I Do. There’s still lots to do physically and emotionally but we’re both up for it and enjoying the ride.
However there’s one wedding planning element that is probably the most personal and I’m thinking about it more these days. I don’t think I’ve mentioned in my two + years of maintaining Triple B but my father is deceased. He passed away in my teen years. Before he did we were very close. [Read more...]
Those of you who follow Triple B on Twitter might already know that this past weekend, I got engaged. And those of you who have been following Triple B here know that I rarely ever mention my personal relationship on this site. I’m a pretty private person. But I came to the conclusion – after careful consideration — that if I expect others to continue to be candid with me about their relationships, fears and triumphs, I should do the same…So here goes: [Read more...]
Welcome to the newly improved BlackBridalBliss.com! Or as we like to call it, Triple B 2.o! It’s been two years since our debut, so we decided to freshen things up a bit, yet still remain true to our original format that the audience loves. We’ve made a few changes. The first thing you should notice is our fabulous new search box in the navigation bar. This will help you find content you love using keywords like photography, flowers or DJ. Go ahead, try it!
Also new to 2.0 are the remixed navigation bars at the top of the page. We now have two! The first one contains tried and true Triple B faves like Tie the Knot Tuesday. But there are also new items; see below:
Wedding Timeline Checklist – A complete countdown of what to do when in preparation for your big day.
Press – Now you can see all the ways Triple B has been recognized by a variety of media outlets.
Testimonials – Real Triple B Buzz from readers like you. (Keep ‘em coming!)
Advertise – Vendors can now promote their goods and services with the Triple B audience through advertising.
The second navigation bar contains all the topics the Triple B family loves like Marriage Matters and Destination Ideas. New to the roundup is Bridgette’s Picks; look out for a new post in this category every Wednesday.
And don’t miss the Social Media additions to your right where you can easily join us on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest for even more up to the minute bridal news and immediate ways to join our community discussions.
Triple B TV - Here you can view must-see videos that will make you swoon.
Archives – This is a comprehensive list of all Triple B posts by month since 2010.
One key difference of the redesigned site is how we feature our images. Larger images are a perfect compliment to our award-winning content. And we can’t wait for you to see how larger pictures showcase our stunning Tie the Knot Tuesday couples. Be sure to check back tomorrow.
We’re pretty excited and hopefully you are, too. Please spread the bliss about Triple B 2.0 and as always, the best is yet to come!
Earlier today I learned via Twitter that Triple B is being recognized by TheRoot.com and moi has been selected as a one of the Best Black Bloggers of 2012! Ahem, I’ll take it! Check it out — Triple B is #18 in the slideshow. Congrats to all the other winners included as well. And the best is still yet to come for Triple B. There is so much more in store for 2012. Continue to spread the bliss.
A new year always encourages us to reflect on the one we just left. We’re 9 days into 2012 and as I attempt to strategize on ways to make Triple B more helpful and efficient for you (and make a profit in the process), I’ve been forced to reevalute why this site was launched in the first place. We can all agree that the Black bride is rarely ever acknowledged and when she is it often seems like an afterthought. But here are some other reasons I think often go unnoticed: [Read more...]
