*FLASHBACK* FINAL FRIDAYS WITH COUSIN MARS

Triple B’s only male blogger shares the deets on what men think about proposing.

Okay, I have to admit this is a tough one. I may lose my Dude Card for this post, but HEY…this is for Triple B. Popping the big question takes a BIG pair (you know what I mean). Please understand that most men take the fiancee-to-be, her friends and family, his friends and family, and finances (depending on the dude, of course) into consideration prior to Popping the BIG QUESTION.

*Flashback* Final Fridays with Cousin Mars – I Got Your Back

cousin mars on black bridal bliss

I think we have all heard the term “I Got Your Back.” I know it isn’t grammatically correct, but let’s ignore that for now. Growing up with siblings and/or other close relatives is what allows most kids the first opportunity to use this expression. As we grow older our circle begins to include friends. If you’re anything like me, you have many stories of how you’ve proven this mantra. Perhaps even better stories regarding how it was proven to you by others. I’d share a few, but the statute of limitations in New York and the District of Columbia are a bit fuzzy in some cases. [Read more…]

In his new book, famed photographer Ross Oscar Knight uncovers what's going through a groom's mind before he says "I Do".

In his new book, famed photographer Ross Oscar Knight uncovers what’s going through a groom’s mind before he says “I Do”.

I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Ross Oscar Knight (photographer, author, speaker and philanthropist) and we discussed his newly released book, In His Moment. Here’s what he shared: [Read more…]

Final Fridays With Cousin Mars – New Year, New [ME] US

For the first Final Fridays with Cousin Mars of 2015, I’ve decided to go cliché. Many of you have probably already forgotten several of your 2015 resolutions. Tia Mowry - Mars vs Venus

Cousin Mars thinks – Hmmm. Well, I do like the high slit. The leg exposure adds tasteful sexiness and exudes confidence. However, there isn’t much more that I like about this outfit. [Read more…]

Mars vs. Venus – Critique of a Groom’s Look

Mr. Chappelle looking like $1,000,000!

Cousin Mars thinks – I’ll start by saying I am a huge Chappelle fan. I probably wouldn’t be too critical of any outfit he wore. Fortunately for me, Dave made critiquing this look a cinch. [Read more…]

Tessa Thompson in Philosophy at the AFI FEST "Selma" Screening in Hollywood

Cousin Mars thinks – When a woman wears short and/or tight outfits, the intended look is obvious. Although I often enjoy witnessing the aforementioned style, I give the most props when a woman is able to pull off the classy sexy look. [Read more…]

FINAL FRIDAYS WITH COUSIN MARS – IS PRIVACY REALISTIC IN MARRIAGE?

I can think of many benefits of waiting until entering your 30s to tie the knot. However, one fairly common challenge like-minded individuals often face is figuring out how and what habits and behaviors to abandon. Many topics can fall under this umbrella, but I’d like to specifically discuss privacy. Individuals over 30 are generally more set in their ways than their younger counterparts; often leading to a more interesting adjustment period. According to Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary, Privacy is defined as freedom from unauthorized intrusion. [Read more…]

Hey, Triple B! Your favorite cousin is back. As I explained last week, in addition to my Final Friday musings on serious topics like marriagebrotherhood and parenting, I will post here
each and every Thursday about…Fashion. My lil’ cuz Venus and I will alternate each week between looks for the ladies and the fellas to wear not only on the wedding day but to all of those events leading up to the nuptials as well. Today, we’re breaking down what we like — and loathe — about this look recently worn by one of my favorite actresses (big eyes and all), Tracee Ellis Ross. [Read more…]

MARS vs. VENUS – Critique of a Groom’s Look

Hey, Triple B! Your favorite cousin has something new up his sleeve. In addition to my Final Friday musings on serious topics like marriage, brotherhood and parenting, I will post here each and every Thursday about…Fashion. The truth is I’m a simple khakis and sweater kinda guy when it comes to clothes — I’ve never been nor do I aspire to be a “fashion dude.” But Boss Lady Bridgette felt like BlackBridalBliss.com was slacking in men’s wardrobe content. Eventually I had to agree she had a valid point: Most fellas want to be fly for their wedding day, too. Still, I told her I would only do it if I could make it fun and stay true to who I am. So I partnered up with my lil’ cuz Janee D. Weather aka “Venus” (Triple B’s hardworking editorial assistant) and soon the Mars vs. Venus concept was born. We’re kicking off this exciting feature with a look for the groom and/or his groomsmen in the above pic. [Read more…]

Final Friday with Cousin Mars: Marriage Advice – Well…kinda

I’ve heard the term “Birds of a feather flock together” throughout my childhood. I felt as though my mother and most influential high school teacher repeated these words to me too often. It frustrated me. By the way, I continued hearing this through college and even in the work place. When I got engaged, I started reminding myself of this all too familiar phrase. [Read more…]

Final Fridays with Cousin Mars – She Made Me A Better Man

I needed a provocative title in order to pique your interest. In a moment you’ll understand why I chose it. This post may be my most personal Final Fridays with Cousin Mars post to date. In fact, it may actually break a few of the privacy rules I set when I first agreed to contribute to The Ultimate Online Destination for Black Brides. I have received such positive reviews, via emails and post comments, over the past sixteen months. At the risk of sounding extremely corny, I feel as though the Black Bridal Bliss audience deserves a more open Cousin Mars.

Confessions of a Groom: I Didn’t Think I’d Cry

Three toasts on a night full of joyous emotion replay in my head days after my wedding ceremony. In a past post I discussed the pressure and responsibility of delivering the Best Man toast, well each of the toasts given in my honor delivered in a big way. At the time that I wrote the last post regarding the highly anticipated speech, I didn’t think about the groom’s reaction. Well, I now know what my reaction was. Below I share my experience as the man of the hour. [Read more…]
