Blame it on the unseasonably chilly temps in New York City but I’ve been thinking about vacations a lot these days. Which has me pondering about honeymoon registries… First and foremost, contrary to traditional belief, I don’t think they’re tacky (as long as it isn’t mentioned anywhere on the invitation). Whether or not I will actually use them for my own union is up for debate but I do think modern registries like those offered by Amazon and Hatch My House are super cool and practical. But back to honeymoon registries…There are several out there and since I will be checking them out with the beau pretty soon to see if they fit our desires and needs, I figured I should share my findings here on Triple B. Our wedding is just nine days away! Lately, there’s been so much fuss about finalizing all the big day details that we almost forgot about the big trip that follows it — our honeymoon. We booked it months ago, so once we paid our balance with the travel agent we kind of just forgot all about it. Then, I looked at the calendar and realized that – in addition to everything else — we need to get ready for a 10-day tropical trip in the middle of October. Unlike most other vacations, there’s a lot more involved in honeymoon prep than just grabbing a passport and throwing some shorts in a bag. I attended the “Destination Weddings & Honeymoons Celebrate Romance” expo at NYC’s posh Plaza Hotel last week. (I actually prefer boutique hotels such as the Gansevoort but whenever I go to the Plaza I feel like a grown-up.) Earlier this year – while Triple B was still in the womb – I accepted a wonderful invitation to visit the British Virgin Island of Virgin Gorda and stay at the exclusive Aquamare resort. I’ve done my fair share of traveling but Aquamare is on a different echelon from anything I had ever experienced. My dear cyberfriends, in a word the place is sick.
I’m not even sure where to begin. Virgin Gorda itself is simply a gorgeous island and void of the commercial feel of hairbraiders on the beach and McDonald’s or Starbucks franchises that have plagued much of the Caribbean. The landscape is breathtaking, the beaches are pristine and the people are uber-friendly. All of these qualities make for a great backdrop to The Villas at Aquamare. [Read more...]
