The below video is over a year old but the content still resonates and educates. I have known the interview subjects, Rev. Dr. Floyd Flake and Rev. Dr. Elaine Flake of the Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in Queens, NY since childhood. I attended the Allen Christian School which they founded for eight years and believe I am a better woman because of it. Their efforts to improve the community I grew up in are invaluable to me so I’m probably biased. I’ve witnessed their marriage and ministry go through the type of challenges that would lead many couples to divorce court. [Read more…]
Please enjoy this informative piece by Philadelphia-based writer and mental health therapist Essence Cohen. I personally learned a lot from this article and I’m sure you will, too. Be sure to show Essence some Triple B love in the comments!
There are so many exciting activities surrounding your wedding day that you can lose focus of the importance of building the foundation for your actual marriage. The new experiences and unchartered waters you and your future spouse will explore will enhance your relationship but also test your commitment. As mentioned on Triple B in the past, some images are so strong they require no words to describe them. The above pic was snapped just moments after Beyonce shut down (literally) the 2013 Superbowl with her electrifying halftime show. After her unforgettable performance, Beyonce’s hubby Jay-Z was waiting for her backstage and the two shared this heartwarming embrace. This picture is especially touching since the duo rarely exhibit PDA. As if this weren’t adorable enough, Jay — who despite having over two million followers hardly ever tweets — jokingly tweeted: “Lights out! Any questions?” of course referencing the power surge in the New Orleans Superdome after his wife’s performance. [Read more…]
The folks over at Ebony magazine are giving us not one, not two but three fabulous covers for the month of February! The theme of the issue is “Celebrate Black Love” — something we enjoy doing here at Triple B. And when we can get honest advice from seemingly happy married couples about life after “I Do”, that’s always a plus. [Read more…]
Today’s piece was submitted by Andrea Montgomery, a newlywed from Illinois who works in engineering. Andrea tied the knot this past summer — July to be exact — and wanted to share her recent discoveries with Triple B. (There she is in the above pic with her hubby on their big day.) I truly believe every relationship has it’s own DNA– what works for you might not work for me and vice versa. On that note, here’s what has worked/is working for Andrea: [Read more…]
As mentioned before, sometimes Triple B covers brides that don’t identify as “Black” simply because it makes sense to for the audience — you. This past weekend, newlyweds Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson and his bride Evelyn Lozada got into some mess that…well, it is just m-e-s-s-y! He was arrested for allegedly headbutting her but later reports were released that she actually headbutted him. Then on Sunday, Johnson was dropped from the Miami Dolphins — a position he just landed and apparently was holding onto with a thread anyway. To make matters worse (as if that is possible) insiders claim this entire altercation stemmed from Evelyn finding a receipt for condoms. Oy vey! [Read more…]
CYNICS BEWARE: The story of Lena Henderson and Roland Davis will warm your heart. Why? Well, the 85-year old couple just remarried on Saturday, August 4th after being divorced for nearly five decades — 48 years to be exact. I first read about this pair over on Black and Married with Kids. [Read more…]
What a treat I have for you guys today! When I discovered that Tie the Knot Tuesday alum Rasheeda enjoys writing and realized that her one-year wedding anniversary was approaching, I asked the Georgia Peach to pen a piece about her first 365 days of wifedom for Triple B. Rasheeda in turn submitted a beautiful, honest and eye-opening letter to her engaged self. There are so many jewels in this letter, y’all. Enjoy!
