The Road to Mrs. – Priorities While Wedding Planning

Our resident bride-to-be Nicole was wowed by this chic Southern California venue for her wedding.

It was early in the planning process when I found out that I’d have to set priorities when it came to spending.  In order to stay in budget, I would not be able to splurge on every detail. I’d have to find savings here and there and be willing to compromise.

The most important thing to making my day great would be the venue and the food, [Read more...]

The Road to Mrs. – Romance & Finance

Road to Mrs. blogger Nicole and her fiance Leonard are learning how to compromise before saying I Do.

Being an only child, I’d never not gotten what I wanted. And being an attorney, I’d become very good at negotiating. So when my fiancé and I sat down to discuss our wedding and, most importantly, our wedding budget, I had very few worries. My vision was full of lavishness while his involved us going to the courthouse. In the end, we settled on a number that would allow me the wedding of my dreams, albeit with a much smaller guest list. His reasoning for not wanting to go overboard with the spending made absolute sense, and while I understood his point, admittedly I looked at the budget number as a suggestion — kind of the same way I look at speeding limits. Wedding Favors – Thoughtful or Wasteful?

Wedding favors: Do you love or lathe them?

Favors have become pretty standard at weddings but many couples (including myself and Mr. TK) have started to wonder if they’re necessary. After much thought, we decided our wedding would be favor-free and we have no regrets. However, [Read more...]

Triple B Founder Bridgette Bartlett Jumped the Broom!

October 19, 2013 - Triple B The Remix: Bridgette's Bridal Bliss!

Well folks, the deed was done. On Saturday, October 19, 2013, I jumped the broom with my best friend in front of roughly 115 loved ones. (We actually wed a month prior in a much smaller ceremony — I promise to elaborate more on that later.) In a word, last weekend was bliss.

Mr. TK and I are still sleepwalking and aren’t scheduled to return to our normal (whatever that means) schedules until next week. Still, I wanted to give you all a glimpse into our nuptials to hold you over until the official Tie the Knot Tuesday feature next month. Below is hand’s down one of my favorite moments from the big day: [Read more...]

Bridgette’s Wedding Day Countdown: I’m Getting Married in Four Days!

Last night I received unfortunate news regarding a loved one. The news wasn’t life-threatening and might help said person in the long run but I spent a good portion of my evening consumed with it instead of finishing this list. I still don’t have escort cards, I didn’t go to snapfish.com to get signs printed and I missed the Martha Stewart Weddings Fiesta. On a brighter side, I got my nails and eyelashes done yesterday — WOO HOO. Check this Instagram nail video for a fun play by play. Here’s what I’m hoping to accomplish today: [Read more...]

Bridgette’s Wedding Day Countdown: I’m Getting Married in 5 Days!

Today’s gonna be a doozy! I’ve been up since 5ish this morning sending emails and making lists. There’s still more lists to write, too. (Mr. TK thinks I make too many lists but my mother has warned him I inherited that from my dad. “She got it honest,” she told him. They now have lots of conversations about me in front of me; they’re too funny.) Here’s what is on my list for today: [Read more...]

Bridgette’s Wedding Day Countdown: I’m Getting Married in a Week!

Yesterday was productive. While I didn’t complete all the tasks on my to-do list, I finished most of them and even did a few important things that weren’t on the list. (Ahem, my wedding band was finally selected and purchased — WOO HOO!) I realized that not only was my friend Lisa’s advice to post this wedding countdown important for the Triple B audience but it will also hold me accountable. (By the way if you’re ever in NYC and need a mani or pedi, check Lisa out at The Nail Suite by Lisa Logan. Yes that was definitely a shameless plug.) Here’s what I hope to accomplish today and tomorrow: [Read more...]

Bridgette’s Pick of the Week – Guests saying “I Don’t” to weddings

If you feel my wedding is too expensive to attend, staying home is always an option.

I had a completely different post scheduled for today. But when I received a link to this article from my cousin, I knew I had to share it in this week’s BPOTW. Said article from MSN delves into the topic of wedding costs, particularly costs of weddings for guests and especially attendants. Check out this snippet: [Read more...]

Wedding Planning Lessons from a Billionaire Bride

These newlyweds are laughing all the way to the bank!

Once in a blue, an event takes place in popular culture that just has to get discussed here on Triple B, even if the bride isn’t identified as Black. The latest such event would be the nuptials of tech tycoon Mark Zuckerberg and his college sweetheart of nine years, Priscilla Chan. I’m sure you’re aware that Zuckerberg — a founder of Facebook which officially went public last week — is the youngest billionaire in the world. The Harvard University dropout wed Chan, who just graduated from the University of California at San Francisco’s medical school and has plans to become a pediatrician, in a modest ceremony in the couple’s backyard. Of course the word modest is relative but in comparison to some folks who don’t have nearly as much money as Zuckerberg (ahem Real Housewives of Atlanta), these two kept it low-key and simple.

The Road to Mrs. – I Hired a Wedding Planner!

Road to Mrs. blogger Jene said "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" to her new wedding planner!

It is crunch time and thus far I have approached wedding planning as a DIY bride. I am very proud of the accomplishments I have made on my own. Especially since event planning on this scale is not my forte. The bulk of the major decisions have been made.  Contracts, deposits and price negotiations are done, but here is where I have hit a wall.  I am secure enough to acknowledge where my strengths are lacking, and the little details of décor and implementation for the reception is where I cry UNCLE!

I have decided to enlist the help of a planner. One of my bridesmaids recently had a party celebrating her birthday, and her planner did a fabulous job. I was so impressed in fact, I begged my friend for her contact information. I was beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed at this phase of the planning process and I saw this as God answering my prayers. The realization that my wedding day is six months away has begun to settle in, and I am officially freaking out. While we have solidified quite a few things already, there is still so much left to do and time is speeding by. [Read more...]
