Grammy-winning singer Brandy got engaged [Read more…]

Final Friday with Cousin Mars – Are Men Intimidated by Successful Women?

Cousin Mars gives his three cents an the age-old relationship debate.

Do men really have a problem dating successful women? Better yet, do men truly have an issue committing to successful women? F.Y.I. – There is a difference between dating and committing. I’ve dated multiple six figure earners. Two of these relationships were when six figures were still viewed as a huge deal. Several of my friends have also dated women that most would deem successful. Several of these relationships have graduated into marriage. Few have ended as a result the woman’s success – well, kinda. [Read more…]

Marriage Matters Monday – How Do You Handle Divorce News?

I have a confession: Since I’ve been engaged, the news of couples getting divorced gives me a case of the heebeegeebees. It saddened me before but now it actually more than saddens me; it scares me a little too. I realize this might seem self-absorbed but I’m being honest here. The most recent news of this kind was that of Tom Joyner and Donna Richardson. They were a seemingly “real” couple and had been married for 12 years. To give you context, the news of Evelyn and Chad splitting didn’t sadden me. I know, I know… I shouldn’t let what others do (or not do) influence me. And trust me, I’ve never been more confident that I want to marry my fiance than I am now. However, I cannot deny that stories like those of Tom and Donna calling it quits make me ponder. I ask myself, Did they really try to make it work? Did they truly give it their all? What was the final straw that made them throw in the towel and walk away from their vows? [Read more…]

A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words…

Some images are so strong they simply don’t require captions and this is one of them. This photo was taken by ATL-based Project Duo Photography and I have fallen in love with everything the picture exudes. I hope that my fiance has at least one special moment like this with his boys on our wedding day. (Many thanks to DJ Battle of One Sound and Entertainment for tipping me off to this awesome shot on Facebook!)

Bridgette’s Pick of the Week – MUST-SEE First Dance Video

I’ve already shared this video on Facebook and Twitter but you guys know I’m a bona fide sucka for a good wedding trailer so I had to make this my pick of the week on the site, too. This couple got down for their first dance. How cool are those masks?! So creative and just plain ‘ole fun — I’m sure their entire reception was a blast!

If my fiance and I did anything remotely like this it would surprise all our guests because he’s not a big fan of dancing. Will you or did you and your significant other shake a tailfeather like this couple did for your wedding’s first dance? Why or why not?

Marriage Matters Monday – Who are Your Marriage Role Models?

Clair and Heathcliff Huxtable of "The Cosby Show" shared a fictional marriage admired by many in the 1980s.

Last week I had the unique opportunity to chat about marriage, parenthood and lots of stuff in between with my mom, my fiance and his mom. The four of us happen to engage in this very impromptu (but life-changing) convo with a 78 year-old widow and her single forty-something daughter. The entire conversation was enlightening but below are my highlights from the encounter. I was blessed by them and I think you will be, too. As I’ve mentioned before — although I’m planning a wedding, I’m much more concerned about my marriage. For the record, I had heard many of these things before but hearing them come from complete strangers was confirmation in a sense. Here goes: [Read more…]

Bridgette’s Pick of the Week: Le Sutra Liqueur

Le Sutra Liqueur is available in four distinct flavors!

In the hair salon recently, another client offered me, her stylist and my stylist a sip of a new fruity liqueur named Le Sutra to get our opinions on an exciting venture she and her husband had just launched. Said salon has considerable clientele who work in the media, fashion/beauty and entertainment industries so there’s usually a good amount of networking going on between wash and sets. As previously mentioned, I’m not a big alcohol drinker but as soon as I saw the packaging of this liqueur, I was intrigued. That’s right, before I even tasted it! Why? The packaging was gorgeous and I immediately thought it would be perfect for a wedding and/or a bachelorette celebration. [Read more…]
