Bridgette’s Pick of the Week – Bill Cosby vs Heathcliff Huxtable

A snapshot of my childhood: Phylicia Rashad as Clair Hanks Huxtable, Bill Cosby as Dr. Heathcliff ‘Cliff’ Huxtable.

When Bill Cosby rape allegations broke last fall — shortly after I posted this — my husband asked me if I planned to address the matter on Triple B. He and I discussed it, as we do most current events especially those directly connected to the Black community and/or women, at length. I ultimately opted not to mention the matter here on Black Bridal Bliss. Why?

Bridgette’s Pick of the Week – A Wine Basket of Firsts

Basket of Firsts: A Bridal Shower Hit!

Basket of Firsts: A Bridal Shower Hit!

I first learned of the “Basket of Firsts” for newlyweds at my girlfriend’s bridal shower. It was a bona fide hit — so incredibly thoughtful! It featured bottles of bubbly labeled First New Year’s, First Anniversary, New Home, First Baby (sparkling cider instead of wine) and even First Fight. In total the basket contained about 7 or 8 bottles and each contained a heartfelt note about the occasion in which it would be popped.  [Read more…]

Bridgette’s Pick of the Week – Lapel Pins

Dem boys clean! These lapel pins are definitely a nice pop to the classic black tuxedos.

Lately I’ve been crushing on lapel pins for grooms. I think they’re stylishly unexpected, often make for great conversation starters and the color/texture options are practically endless. Plus, unlike real flowers in a traditional boutonniere they can be worn over and over again. While I have known about lapel pins for a “minute”, the latest varieties are a lot more dapper than those of years past. I especially like the one new hubby Mendeecees wore on his wedding day in the below pic. [Read more…]

At the recent Triple B Bride-to-Be Vision Board Workshop, one of the planning brides — who happens to be Nigerian — expressed how torn she is about incorporating Nigerian customs into her wedding. Bridgette’s Pick of the Week: The One Thing I’m Glad We Did For Our Wedding

Me and the hubby minutes after getting hitched.

Me and the hubby minutes after getting hitched.

Valentine’s Day marks an unofficial end of “engagement season” for the wedding industry and as of last weekend there are a lot more newly engaged folks checking out Triple B. Welcome!

I technically had two weddings. No, I didn’t deplete my 401K for this. In fact, both ceremonies combined cost less than the national average for weddings. Full disclosure: My husband and I were extremely fortunate to receive many perks during planning as a result of me being a bridal blogger. And we had a lot of financial help from family. But still, we were tempted to go over our set budget several times. We got plenty of practice flexing those sacrifice and compromise muscles during our planning process and good thing we did because those muscles are needed quite a bit during marriage.

The reason I have no regrets – even when I have to make a dollar stretch more than I’m used to as a new wife? Keep reading… [Read more…]
