Nadine and her fiance Sean don't always have the luxury of planning their wedding in the same country.

Last week Sean and I updated you on our wedding plans. Hours after our video posted on BBB, Sean headed to the UK for work. By Saturday, I sent him this Facebook message, “Mayday! Mayday! I’m surrounded by wires and trying to figure out which cable wire goes into the TV.  Missing you very much right now. When you get a chance can you send me an email with instructions? Thx!”

To be clear, I’m not some damsel in distress. I’m used to Sean’s traveling but I hate having to deal with household chores he’d usually handle, such as changing high ceiling light bulbs or moving anything really heavy. Thanks to Skype I was able to solve my dilemma, which got me thinking about engaged couples that have to plan their wedding long distance or are planning a destination wedding. If your wedding ceremony is far from home or if you and your fiancé can’t plan the wedding together, things can get sticky. Here’s a few tips that may help:

Style maven June Ambrose (pictured here in Antigua) has contributed to The Black Atlas.

I know some of you just said to yourself, ‘The Black Atlas isn’t new!’ And you would be correct since the site launched in the fall of 2009. But I don’t think many people realize how valuable of a tool it can be when planning a destination wedding and/or a honeymoon. Read why:

New Orleans Destination Wedding: Have a blissful wedding day and give back to a needed cause!

On Friday a friend posted this article on Facebook that I’ve been eager to share with you guys all weekend. Said article written by Charles Howard for The Huffington Post entitled, “Ways to Make Your Wedding Amazing and Socially Conscious” really struck a nerve with me. In the piece, Howard delves into the benefits of using your nuptials to give back. (Ever notice when you help others you end up with a reward as well?) [click to continue…]

Bride-to-be Charli gives tips on planning a stress-free honeymoon.

Our wedding is just nine days away! Lately, there’s been so much fuss about finalizing all the big day details that we almost forgot about the big trip that follows it — our honeymoon. We booked it months ago, so once we paid our balance with the travel agent we kind of just forgot all about it. Then, I looked at the calendar and realized that – in addition to everything else — we need to get ready for a 10-day tropical trip in the middle of October. Unlike most other vacations, there’s a lot more involved in honeymoon prep than just grabbing a passport and throwing some shorts in a bag. I knew we needed an action plan fast, so I came up with the following last-minute preparation plan. Vegas and Maui here we come! [click to continue…]

The Westin Resort in St. John: There's no need for many decorations in a beautiful setting like this.

I attended the “Destination Weddings & Honeymoons Celebrate Romance” expo at NYC’s posh Plaza Hotel last week. (I actually prefer boutique hotels such as the Gansevoort but whenever I go to the Plaza I feel like a grown-up.) Anyway, the event was very informative and I’ll have loads of great stuff to share with you guys in the coming weeks. Today I’m providing a sampling of a few things I uncovered that you can take advantage of now: [click to continue…]

The Villas at Aquamare

Earlier this year – while Triple B was still in the womb – I accepted a wonderful invitation to visit the British Virgin Island of Virgin Gorda and stay at the exclusive Aquamare resort. I’ve done my fair share of traveling but Aquamare is on a different echelon from anything I had ever experienced. My dear cyberfriends, in a word the place is sick.

Lounge in paradise

I’m not even sure where to begin. Virgin Gorda itself is simply a gorgeous island and void of the commercial feel of hairbraiders on the beach and McDonald’s or Starbucks franchises that have plagued much of the Caribbean. The landscape is breathtaking, the beaches are pristine and the people are uber-friendly. All of these qualities make for a great backdrop to The Villas at Aquamare. [click to continue…]
