The most important thing to making my day great would be the venue and the food, [Read more...]

The Road to Mrs. – Bridesmaids, DIY & Bonding, Oh My!

Triple B's resident bride-to-be Nicole (right) and her cousin and maid of honor Jana are happy DIYers!

My cousin and maid of honor Jana, recently graduated from college. With a degree in drama and her eyes set on becoming an actress, she relocated to Los Angeles. With just a few weeks until the wedding, I had several DIY projects that I’d saved with the expectation of having free labor. Jana was barely in the door before I mentioned my plans to put her to work. She was more than eager to help and jumped right in. [Read more...]

Bridgette’s Pick of the Week – Gregory Porter’s Good Hands

Gregory Porter might make proposing a little less stressful with his touching song, Good Hands.

I’ve gone through most of my life hearing folks tell me I have an old soul. I’m not sure if this is true but my taste in music certainly reflects this notion. I’ll take Earth, Wind & Fire over modern-day R&B any day. But every now and again, a new artist comes along that reminds me of the soul music I fondly remember hearing during my childhood. Don’t you love the way music can instantly transport you to a time and place?

My cousin (he and I have sat around and critiqued Nas lyrics for hours) recently put me on to Gregory Porter. [Read more...]

Marriage Matters Monday – The Italian Honeymoon That Never Happened

Mr. TK & I chillaxin' in Aruba three months after getting engaged

“Man can plan but God can hinder.”

Growing up, I listened to my North Carolina-born mom and grandmother recite the above sentence countless times and it typically left me perplexed. Now as a married, 30-something year-old woman I get it. In fact, my new marriage and now postponed honeymoon are prime examples of this saying.

Before I get into the who, what and why of my honeymoon being postponed, let me explain a few things: I work in an industry where frontin’ is embraced. I thought long and hard about whether or not I wanted to post this because I was nervous about oversharing and exposing too much of me and the hubby’s business to the world wide web. But upon careful consideration, I concluded (after running it by him) that I should because if I experienced it, someone else probably has, too. So here goes… [Read more...]
