Ladies, before you go purchasing any and everything new you can find for your wedding day, take an honest inventory of what’s already in your closet. Seriously. The earrings I wore on my NYC wedding day? I owned them for almost 19 [Read more…]
Ronnie and Lamar Tyler, the masterminds behind Black and Married with Kids are up to something that should be on the radar of us all — whether we’re married or not. The power couple recently released a new documentary entitled, Generation One and it is getting rave reviews. Here’s a brief synopsis and snippet of the film: [Read more…]
No doubt you’ve heard of the “Freshman 15.” That time during our first year at college where we lived solely on Ramen, Hot Pockets and peanut butter crackers (or was that just me)? While I didn’t gain the full 15 extra pounds, the proverbial trend did not leave me unscathed.
Fast forward to my first eight months as a newlywed and history seems to be repeating itself. [Read more…]
We’re borrowing from our pals over at The Lover’s Rocque (Remember their fun Tie the Knot Tuesday wedding?) for today’s Marriage Matters. The messaging that brides-to-be are bombarded with is plan, plan and plan some more for a beautiful, memorable wedding however there is very little information for engaged women (or men) on achieving and maintaining a beautiful and memorable marriage. [Read more…]
When Bill Cosby rape allegations broke last fall — shortly after I posted this — my husband asked me if I planned to address the matter on Triple B. He and I discussed it, as we do most current events especially those directly connected to the Black community and/or women, at length. I ultimately opted not to mention the matter here on Black Bridal Bliss. Why?
“Even if you make plans you never think you’re really ready for marriage. Like any growth you can’t be (completely) ready for it because it’s going to be new.”
– Jerry Seinfeld
View the video below and share your thoughts (particularly about the exchange between Wale and Jerry in the beginning)! The conversations surrounding marriage from a man’s perspective are usually enlightening if for no other reason because we rarely hear them. Share your feedback — good, bad or indifferent — and let’s get a discussion going in the comments, y’all. [Read more…]
Howdy! We’re taking a mini-hiatus here on BlackBridalBliss.com this week. We’ll return on [Read more…]
I first learned of the “Basket of Firsts” for newlyweds at my girlfriend’s bridal shower. It was a bona fide hit — so incredibly thoughtful! It featured bottles of bubbly labeled First New Year’s, First Anniversary, New Home, First Baby (sparkling cider instead of wine) and even First Fight. In total the basket contained about 7 or 8 bottles and each contained a heartfelt note about the occasion in which it would be popped. [Read more…]
After five years (whew!) of featuring awesome couples and their nuptials here on Triple B we’ve gotten quite a bit of content in our archives. Today we revisit an interview with our first Tie the Knot Tuesday couple, Cleo and Lyncoln Dujon. The Maryland couple first shared their insider videographer tips and tricks here. However, their insight — the couple comes clean on budgets and not initially agreeing on the need for a videographer — is still relevant so enjoy! [Read more…]
Last month BlackBridalBliss.com headed to Charlotte, NC for the first (but definitely not the last) Ultimate Date Night Wedding Planning Soiree! Held at the scenic Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, the event featured an interactive info-session with Charlotte’s own personal financial guru Marsha Barnes of The Finance Bar to help couples make the most of their money post-wedding and tunes were provided by the award-winning DJ Battle of One Sound & Entertainment. Guests included engaged men and women, newlyweds, seasoned married couples and happily single folks. A memorable time was had by all!

I was tempted to make this essay about how my father stressed the importance of family. I’m grateful for it and hope to pass similar family values to my children should I become a mother. Then I considered making the post about how culturally aware I am as a result of my father. The art, literature and even music he exposed me to at an early age was key in making me the woman I am today. I thought about focusing this piece on the way my father treated my mother and the message it sent to me. I knew early on that romantic love did not mean physical or verbal abuse and I have my father to thank for that.
But I decided against them all. Why?
Lately I’ve been crushing on lapel pins for grooms. I think they’re stylishly unexpected, often make for great conversation starters and the color/texture options are practically endless. Plus, unlike real flowers in a traditional boutonniere they can be worn over and over again. While I have known about lapel pins for a “minute”, the latest varieties are a lot more dapper than those of years past. I especially like the one new hubby Mendeecees wore on his wedding day in the below pic. [Read more…]
At the recent Triple B Bride-to-Be Vision Board Workshop, one of the planning brides — who happens to be Nigerian — expressed how torn she is about incorporating Nigerian customs into her wedding. Her fiance, who is also Nigerian, was adamant about them having a traditional large wedding affair complete with 400+ guests. [Read more…]
Last night the wedding of Love and Hip Hop reality television stars Yandy Smith and Mendeecees Harris aired during a two-hour special courtesy of VH1. The longtime couple are the proud parents of four children (two of whom Mendeecees brought to their relationship) and the lovebirds were sure to include them in their big day. Also present at the nuptials were a plethora of fellow Love and Hip Hop faves including Kandi Burruss, Ray J and R& B songstress K. Michelle who performed during the ceremony.
The bride and groom spared few expenses for the “fairy tale” experience including $90,000 for flowers [Read more…]
At last week’s Ultimate Date Night Soiree in Charlotte (We had a blast by the way, pics to come soon!), one of the planning brides in attendance expressed that she was regrettably still searching for affordable floral options for her big day. While I had several of tips of frugal floral finds to share with her, it reminded me of an awesome floral resource I’d yet to gush about here: Eco Flower Weddings! [Read more…]
Who wants a perfect love affair anyway?
