I recently stumbled across this post by Teal Pennebaker on wedding toasts over at Brides.com and decided to share it — well, a remixed version anyway. It’s long overdue since Cousin Mars has already blessed us with tips for a memorable best man toast for the groom…The bride deserves her shine too! Read, share and enjoy. [Read more...]
Nicole Brewer-Gurganious is a friend of Triple B. She’s a former boss from my days at ESSENCE magazine (she was then fashion director, I was fashion and beauty research editor). A few years later I started covering real weddings for Essence.com and featured Nicole’s August 2009 nuptials to hubby Damien. The vibrant couple had been contestants on Biggest Loser and both shed an impressive amount of weight while making significant lifestyle changes. It was a delight to showcase Nicole’s big day on Essence.com and Nicole was equally as excited to share her love story. Nicole has confessed, “He was made especially for me” when asked about her marriage. Fast forward to the launch of BlackBridalBliss.com in 2010 — Nicole was an ambassador for David’s Bridal and lent her style expertise to Triple B when the blog was just a month old. She cheerfully expressed how proud she was of me and the leap of faith I took to start this blog. Her advice on how brides of any shape or size can find a fashionable gown is still relevant. Two years ago, Nicole and Damien became the proud parents of a beautiful daughter named Giselle who was the light of both of their lives.
Now Nicole is a widow. [Read more...]

Kyle Douglas, the author of today’s Marriage Matters personal essay, and I have known each other for over 25 years. As always, none of us know what happens in any marriage behind closed doors, but we can certainly learn from and be inspired by the ones that are seemingly healthy, happy and honest about how they attempt to stay that way. I’m proud of the husband and father Kyle appears to have become. I remember when this dude sported a high top fade! Check out his take on what it really means to work at a marriage.
This Husband’s Work by Kyle Douglas
As a child, it is not uncommon for someone to ask the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Back then I gave answers like, “A pilot, a professional football player, and even an electrician.” This mentality stayed with me ’til about my late teens and then something changed. I can’t tell you exactly what triggered it but those things were no longer important. My goal in life was to become a good if not great family man. [Read more...]
Confession: Like most bloggers who regularly cover style and beauty, I often receive freebies. However I only post about those items that I feel are truly Triple B worthy; especially as my Pick of the Week. Here’s why this week’s pick, SheaMoisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Body Wash made the cut. [Read more...]
Kim who? Chile, please. Solange broke the Internet! The 28 year-old singer, DJ and Puma creative director wed her longtime boyfriend Alan Ferguson in New Orleans yesterday — complete with a second line — and the Internet went ba-na-nas. Here’s what all the hoopla was about and what we can all learn (or be reminded of) about wedding planning from the stylish newlywed plus plenty of swoon-worthy pics and an aww-inducing video clip from the creative all-white affair. You read that headline correctly, folks! I’m today’s featured guest on The Marsha & Money Radio Show. (Remember Marsha from this post? She’s a kick-a** personal financial planner and founder of The Finance Bar.) I’ll be sharing expert tips and tricks on staying within your budget while wedding planning, revealing a few never before shared secrets on how I cut costs for my own Charlotte, NC nuptials and even dishing on ways to practically plan a wedding for $1,000. Be sure to grab a friend or two and take a listen. Thanks as always for your support of Triple B!
I recently headed out to the borough of Long Island (for you non-New Yorkers, Long Island isn’t really a borough — this is my attempt to be funny) for a visit to Truth + Beauty Spa. This posh medi-spa opened Spring 2013 and offers a wide range of treatments for brides-to-be. So when the invitation for me and a friend to spend an afternoon at Truth + Beauty landed in my inbox, I was all in! Here’s the scoop: [Read more...]
I was so impressed when Joel personally reached out to Triple B via Facebook to share the touching video proposal to the mother of his child(ren) and his now fiancee, Summer, that it had to be shared here on the blog. Watch, enjoy and comment! P.S. – I love you more than Urkel loved Laura Winslow is kind of a genius line. [Read more...]
