ATTENTION: Brides with a short a ‘do often want to rock a hair accessory for their strut down the aisle, too. However, most bridal magazines would lead us to believe all brides should wear their hair shoulder length or longer. This is frustrating, so I was beyond happy to see how Oscar winner and all-around fly girl Lupita Nyong’o wore her gold and diamond Fred Leighton headband with her princess Prada gown recently on the red carpet.
While Lupita’s gown of choice was not my favorite on her this award season, (The bodice wasn’t the most flattering for her small frame.) her hair was as usual sick — in a good way. And the chic jeweled headband was so unexpected. Lupita’s fashion stylist Micaela Erlanger explained to The Hollywood Reporter, “[The headband] was the icing to the gown, adding a touch of sparkle. It completed the look perfectly.” Yes, indeed.
I truly look forward to seeing how brides interpret this look for their weddings as the year progresses! For those of you who are interested in trying out this look yourself sans the hefty Fred Leighton prices tag, turn to resources like Dessy, David’s Bridal, Jennifer Behr and even Claire’s (yes that Claire’s!).
Were you wowed by Lupita’s look at the Oscars on Sunday night? Are you planning to wear a hair accessory for your wedding day? Why/why not?
She is beautiful! I was screaming when she won!!!
I feel Black women have run the long straight cascading curls look into the ground. When I see Viola Davis and Lupita Nyong’o I’m overjoyed that they haven’t felt compelled to follow the crowd. The accessory makes the statement more bold.
She is a real style icon in the making :)
Love for Lupita! ;-)
