I know most people equate Lifetime movies to sappy, predictable, saccharin-sweet chick flicks with mediocre (at best) acting. But I must admit, I’m pretty freakin’ excited about With This Ring staring Jill Scott, Regina Hall and newlywed Eve which airs this Saturday evening at 8P ET, January 24 on Lifetime. Another newlywed Gabrielle Union is producing while creative powerhouse Nzingha Stewart (she also executive produced Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls) gets director credit.
The premise of the movie is simple: Three close friends make a vow to tie the knot within a year after attending their sorority sister’s wedding. The threesome make a pact to either find a new love or settle down with an old flame waiting in the wings. I’m even more eager to watch the film because it is based on the 2006 novel The Vow penned by my former ESSENCE mag boss Angela Burt-Murray (she’s presently a co-host on the talk show, Exhale), EBONY editor-in-chief Mitzi Miller and acclaimed writer Denene Millner.
Boss bliss indeed.
So tell me, will you be tuning in on Saturday? And — be honest — have you and/or anyone you know ever made a similiar pact as the characters in this film? Share in the comments!
I’ll be watching! And for the record, I love Lifetime movies! LOL!!!
@Marie – LOL! Be sure to come back here and comment about the movie after watching.
Other than reality shows and ignorant comedy or drama, I usually take any opportunity to witness the dynamics between women that look like me. Especially if written, produced and/or directed by a woman of color, I want to support their endeavors. Yes, I will tune in.
I’m looking forward to watching this movie.
@SD – I strongly agree!
@Anon – Great.
