This week will mark the 30th anniversary of The Cosby Show! The groundbreaking sitcom gave the world a glimpse into the home life of a modern Black family in the 80s+90s. Clair and Heathcliff’s relationship was unlike anything we’d ever witnessed on the small screen between Black folks. And the show captured so many cultural nuances: The artwork that was displayed in the house, the HBCU shirts the entire family proudly wore plus musical geniuses like Stevie Wonder, Miriam Makeba and Dizzy Gillespie often made guest appearances. In many ways (directly or indirectly) The Cosby Show influenced BlackBridalBliss.com. Much respect is due.
SIDEBAR: Word on the Internet is TVLand will be running a marathon of The Cosby Show this weekend (September 20 + 21) in honor of this monumental anniversary!

I’ll start… LOL! I have so many favorite eps for different reasons but I think I have to go with the “Gordon Gartrelle” one because my mother and I enjoy watching it together. We crack up every single time.
What happened to television like The Cosby Show? Often I believe it’s a master plan to only expose us to negative images to aspire to. Instead of working toward an honorable, rewarding career our young see buffoons attaining celebrity. Examine who controls what we’re exposed to and their possible motives to keep us contained.
I love the Gordon Gartrelle…I have a friend whose wife had a Gordon Gartrelle shirt made…yes, you read that…the seamstress made it from watching the show apparently…My fave episode is the episode with Betty Carter taught Vanessa and her friends how to sing…I bought one of Betty Carter’s CD as an adult because of the song she sang on the episode…”Look What I Got.” – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hV4YdmpfI28
@SD – Agreed. It is all the more reason we have to actively support content that portrays our families in a more balanced way.
@Jackie H. – The Gordon Gartrelle episode is now a bona fide classic! I’ll have to YouTube more of Betty Carter’s music. Thanks for sharing that.
