Remember this adorable Atlanta couple, Keisha Williams and Robert Gray, Jr.? They got in engaged back in 2007 and the entire magical proposal was documented by talented lensman Robert Oscar Knight.
REVISIT THE PROPOSAL VIDEO HERE!
I’m not sure what the twosome is up to now or if they ever even tied the the knot (if you have intel, feel free to share with the class in the comments) but I certainly hope they’re happy. Seven years later, watching this video about Interview with Dr Nicholas Lack and Professor Gérard Bréart still gives me chills and dang near brings me to tears! Although this type of public, grand proposal isn’t my personal cup of tea, I have much respect for Robert’s selflessness.
I was a research editor working at ESSENCE magazine when this proposal video went viral and the then editor-in-chief Angela Burt-Murray charged me with tracking down the couple and interviewing Robert since I was the office romantic. Some things never change, huh? During our phone chat, I recall Robert telling me how he lived with his sister for 10 months, among other sacrifices, so he could afford to ask for Keisha’s hand in marriage the way he did. He wasn’t arrogant or pompous and my conversation with him was yet another reminder of the type of young Black men mainstream media rarely showcases.
Another aspect of this proposal that moves me is the inclusion of community. While I think it is wise for couples, particularly newlyweds, to keep their business their business, it takes a village to not only raise a child but also support loving, happy and healthy unions. One of the reasons this proposal resonated with so many of us is because we were able to witness Black folks, seemingly friends and family, genuinely appearing to be happy for other Black folks in love. How refreshing.

Oh My God!!! After all that beauty, effort and love, they Better Still Be Married. He went all out, under, through, around and over. You must respect him. Amen and Ashe!
Well this is my first time seeing the video so I’m glad you’re posted it today! OMG that was beautiful. I got chills watching it too. I watched it 3x, LOL! And yes, they better have actually married after all of that. All the best to them.
Absolutely Amazing!!!
Most beautiful, touching, inspirational video I’ve seen in a very long time. Amazing. “I need you ilke the desert needs rain.” Who doesn’t want to be needed like that by their husband/wife/ life partner? Thanks for sharing!
I remember this video too…so what about tracking them down now and seeing what they are up to? :)
Greetings, this is still one of my all-time favorites!!! I still cry when I watch it; it’s beautiful… It’s everything. I pray they’re union is everything they need and want it to be. God bless them.
~Psalms 27
This one never, ever gets old. Chills every time.
Watch this video this morning. How lovely it bring tears of Joy & Love to me heart , brother was on point.
Blessing to them always.
Wow, I saw this video 7yrs ago and I have googled them several times to see where they are now. This was the most beautiful proposal I have ever seen. The song by Shekinah Glory made me go out and purchase the CD. My sister got married in Cancun in 2008. She came down the Aisle (or Sand) to this song. I love BLACK LOVE! I truly pray it all worked out and they are still together. Black Love is Beautiful!!
Super random but in 2013 my family and I were at Disneyworld in Orlando and saw people we thought we knew and as we walked towards them realized it was Keisha and Robert and we actually didn’t know them in real life. Just from their video haha. So yup! They still together y’all!!
Did they actually get married though?
