Happy New Year! I trust you all brought in 2014 in blissfully. By the way, a sincere congratulations to those of you who recently got engaged over the holiday season. So, will a new year bring new trends on the bridal front? Of course! Here are the Black Bridal Bliss top wedding trend picks of 2014:
1 – Radiant Orchid: (See top pic.) This is pretty much a no-brainer since Pantone announced this hue would be the color of 2014. From florals to bridesmaid dresses, we expect to see a whole lot of radiant orchid this year.
2 – Sexy Backs: The trend of intricate back details on wedding gowns started in 2013 but Triple B predicts they will continue to be popular in 2014. Woo hoo!
3 – Intimate Wedding Guest Lists (and bridal parties): Perhaps it is because couples of all races are getting hitched later in life (30+) but the phenomenon of wedding guest lists capping at the 75-100 mark seems likely to continue this year. The same goes for nearlywed couples opting to just have a best man and maid/matron of honor over a huge bridal party.
4 – Creative Cuisine: Say bye-bye to the standard prime rib, potatoes and veggie medley at wedding receptions. Thanks to social media platforms like Pinterest and a growing foodie craze, wedding menus are less and less cookie cutter. Expect reception fare to be carefully selected according to the nuptial’s theme/location from lobster rolls in Martha’s Vineyard to shrimp and grits in Savannah.
5 – Less Colored Shoes for Brides: Blame it on Carrie Bradshaw’s cobalt blue Manolo Blahnik pumps, but the last several years have seen a rush of brides opting for colorful footwear for their strut down the aisle. Every hue in the rainbow was included. However we suspect this to decrease significantly in 2014. While shades of blue will still be present, the Skittle-inspired pumps of years passed are being replaced by subtle neutrals, metallics and jewel encrusted heels.
And lastly Triple B wishes a hearty congratulations to rapper/actress Eve who just got engaged to her longtime beau and British businessman, Maximillion Cooper. Eve joins a slew of celebrities who recently said “yes”…Happy Planning, Eve!
Which 2014 bridal trends are you most excited about and why?
Great list. Those fish tacos look soooo yummy! :)
Hey, I’m all for Black Love but, when its not there, its not there. Interracial/interethnic relationships should be considered. Its a new day and happiness is the goal. Not a trend, a consideration.
@Katina – Thank you and I’ve actually been inspired to cook fish tacos because of this pic.
@SD – Agreed. When I launched BlackBridalBliss.com, the focus was and still is on the Black bride. If she chooses to marry a Black man, a Korean man or a Swedish woman — she remains who this site caters to; always and all always.
I LOVE that wedding dress! The back is just absolutely stunning! And I wish I could wear shoes like that. WOW! At 5’1″, I’d feel so TALL! :-)
These are pretty interesting trends. I love the orchid as the 2014 color; however, I didn’t notice any mention of trends in the stationery field. I’ve been seeing great trends in glittery glam details, lovely patterns and floral invitations. However, I think Black couples should focus on featuring elements of their love story and start trendsetting rather than follow other trends because we have a lot to offer in terms of style and art.
