Whether it is your first time visiting BlackBridalBliss.com, or your 51st time — you have figured out that I’m over the doom and gloom regarding marriage in the Black community. Not only is the conversation exhausting, stats misused (sure educated Black women are getting married older but virtually all educated women are getting hitched later in life) and very rarely are the historical and social factors brought to the table for context. UGH! So when I discover folks like Kea Taylor , I am genuinely more optimistic about the global perception of Black marriage. You will be, too.
Kea Taylor is the talent behind the above book, I Still Do ($29.99, Imagine Photography), that officially debuts on June 1, 2010. A Washington, D.C. based photographer with ten years of experience behind the lens, Taylor was inspired to create her tome by loving images of President and First Lady Obama. Her book balances pictures from Taylor’s days as a wedding photographer (she has captured folks jumping the broom from South Carolina to the south of France) with refreshingly candid interviews with real couples about married life in the new millennium. I Still Do even includes a glossary of African and African American wedding traditions for those planning a culturally relevant ceremony. More info on Taylor, how you can purchase the book and her fab D.C. launch party, click here. (Be sure to watch the preview video. It is a must-see!)
