Yipee! What a way to start the week, huh? I received this cool (and very unexpected) Versatile Blogger Award from Triple B Road to Mrs. alum Charli over at ManWifeandDog! Charli, again I am thankful and humbled by your kind words. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to check out Charli’s hilarious and candid musings on being a newlywed ASAP.

Okay, so my honor comes with a few rules. Keep reading…

Rules:

1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you the award. — CHECK
2. Answer 10 questions* (see below)
3. Pass it along to three blogs you’ve recently discovered and enjoy*.
4. Leave your recipients a note, telling them about the award.

The Questions:

1.  Why did you create this blog?
As I stated in my first post, I started Triple B because I was frustrated with the limited resources for Black women in the bridal market. I discovered this while I was an editor at the premiere magazine for Black women and decided I would (eventually) do something about it. When I got laid off from said position in November 2009, I knew the time had come to make it happen and five months later BlackBridalBliss.com was born. In addition, I am exhausted by the constant messages throughout mainstream media (and sometimes niche mediums) that depict Black women as bitter, lonely and unwanted.

2. What kinds of blogs do you follow?
Because of Triple B I now follow a few bridal blogs for research. But I pay the bills writing and being a market editor of fashion, beauty and lifestyle content so I follow blogs/Web sites that pertain to those topics regularly.

3. Favorite make-up brand?
I’m not a big makeup wearer and I admittedly get most of my makeup for free through work which doesn’t make it easy for me to stay brand-loyal. But I do like MAC and NARS.

4. Favorite clothing brand?
Like Charli, I don’t really think about brands; just style. However, most of my staples are from J.Crew, H&M, Banana Republic, Club Monaco and Zara. When I can catch a good sale or hookup I go for Tracy Reese, Diane von Furstenberg and Catherine Malandrino. I have met all three of these ladies and not only are they talented but very down to earth.

5. Indispensable makeup product?
Again, I’m not a big makeup wearer but rarely leave my apartment without lip gloss, mascara and a pencil to fill in my brows.

6. Favorite color?
Purple – I even painted my kitchen purple. However I have very few purple items of clothing. I think I look better in bright citrus hues like lemon yellow and bold orange.

7. Favorite perfume?
Kai oil. I’m not a fan of alcohol based scents.

8. Favorite film?
I don’t have one all-time fave but Harlem Nights (the costume design was so on point), Clueless, Good Will Hunting and Crooklyn are all in my top 10.

9. What country would you like to visit and why?
Egypt. I know that seems nuts with the social unrest taking place there now but I’ve always wanted to view the pyramids and the Sphinx in person. Plus, I had an opportunity to go in high school and let my pride get in the way.

10. Would you rather forget to put mascara on one eye or forget blush on one side of your face?
Mascara; I don’t wear blush.

So who am I passing on this award to? {Drumroll}

And They Lived Blogging Ever After– I randomly discovered JeLisa and her husband a couple months back while surfing the Net and immediately shared my find with the Triple B Facebook fam. Visually the site is inviting and I dig JeLisa’s warm and friendly writing voice. Congrats on the bundle of joy on the way, guys!

Black Love Poster — I randomly found this a couple months back, too. This site is a gorgeous collection of images – no words – of Black women with their partners. Not all of the women are married, 25, heterosexual or a size 4. Each collection of photos tells a beautiful love story about a Black woman in love. How refreshing is that?

Style Me Pretty — Not a “recent” find but everything on this site is just downright…pretty. There is bridal inspiration galore from tablescapes to wedding gowns to invitations. I’m always inspired by something when I visit.

What are your favorite blogs and why (bridal or otherwise)? Do you visit any of the above sites? If not stop by and if you like what you see tell them BlackBridalBliss.com sent ya!
