Lorin + Aaron enjoying their wedding day!

We’re switching things up a bit on Black Bridal Bliss today. This featured wedding from Lorin and Aaron which took place in Adelphi, Maryland is brought to us by NYC based event planner Pabvon Carter of RSVP by Pabvon. Here’s an inside look into the execution of this fun wedding.

Black Bridal Bliss: Was the “Fun and Games” theme your idea, the couple or a combination?
Pabvon Carter:
The theme was created by the couple. The wife loves DIY crafts and anything vintage, the husband is an animator with a passion for action figures. They regularly host game nights so it was a natural progression. The colors were cobalt blue, teal blue and orange. The hope was that my team could make it all make sense. When the rooms were revealed Lorin and Aaron professed how impressed they were. It was better than they envisioned.

BBB: How was the theme received by guests?
PB:
Guests loved it! They were prepared to expect a great time from the moment they received the Save the Date, a cartoon depiction of the couple playing chess, that was created by the groom. Every typical bridal detail was transformed into a game of sort. From the toy sand bucket that held the programs which were folded as origami fortune tellers, jump ropes to tie off the aisles and small action figures which served as escort cards.

BBB: Was the theme expensive to execute?
PB: It wasn’t expensive to execute since the bride found most of the items online and in thrift shops. It was important that we had enough items to make the theme come alive without things getting too cluttered.

BBB: What tips can you provide for people who want to recreate something similar for their own wedding or bridal shower?
PB: Think outside of the box. Come up with a theme that personifies you and your mate. Yes it will likely be the most important day of your life up until that point, but there is no reason to break the bank. Don’t be afraid of thrift shops or shopping online for gently used items that can be used to enhance your theme.

Another special effect of these nuptials was there was not one flower in the entire wedding. The bride hand crafted felt flowers for everything from the bouquets to the boutonnieres. This has certainly been my most unique wedding to date.
