Last night I received unfortunate news regarding a loved one. The news wasn’t life-threatening and might help said person in the long run but I spent a good portion of my evening consumed with it instead of finishing this list. I still don’t have escort cards, I didn’t go to snapfish.com to get signs printed and I missed the Martha Stewart Weddings Fiesta. On a brighter side, I got my nails and eyelashes done yesterday — WOO HOO. Check this Instagram nail video for a fun play by play. Here’s what I’m hoping to accomplish today:

Complete any last-minute packing. No, I didn’t finish that yesterday as planned.

Continue convo with DJ Battle. We still have to review the correct pronunciation of our wedding party names. He doesn’t want to mess anyone’s up and I appreciate his attention to detail.

Write the tribute I plan to give my father in lieu of a traditional father/daughter dance. I’ve been putting this off for months. Let’s see if I can avoid crying while writing it.

Begin a draft for my vows to Mr. TK. We’ve gone back and forth about bespoke vows. I’m personally quite fond of traditional vows but we also like the addition of anything that will make our wedding more “us”… I’ll keep y’all posted.

Review processional logistics with my baby cousin who is singing me down the aisle. Okay he is far from a baby; he’s over six-feet tall, a former Fisk Jubilee singer and runs an elementary school music department. But he’ll always be the baby in our family. He stays with a jam-packed schedule but we must solidify what song he’s singing ASAP.

Accept the fact that some stuff just won’t happen. And that is okay. I had the genius idea of using Metro Cards as escort cards instead of standard plain white ones since Mr. TK and I are bringing New York City to the Queen City (aka Charlotte) of N.C. for the weekend… Problem? This idea hit me about 5AM today. No bueno. It won’t happen. However, I am still excited about our unique table names!

Continue to have an attitude of gratitude. While I have been disappointed by a few folks in my life since getting engaged, (it can hurt to realize you’re not as close to someone as you thought you were or that someone doesn’t seem as happy for you as you thought they would be) I have been equally if not more surprised by the generosity of others. A creative newlywed couple who are also my mom’s neighbors volunteered to create all of our signage. My sister-in-law has been a DIY queen. My college homie Nicole is selflessly going above and beyond to assist with decorations. I could go on… In wedding planning, as in life, you can choose to look at a glass half-empty or half-full. The choice is up to us.

FOUR MORE DAYS!

P.S. – My friend Toya (who is also a talented life coach) couldn’t make it to my bridal shower but last weekend gave me this uber-thoughtful gift — see below — including loose tea, a tea diffuser, an adorable ceramic teapot, a lavender scented candle, milk bath and a motivational book. Swoon!
