Last night I received unfortunate news regarding a loved one. The news wasn’t life-threatening and might help said person in the long run but I spent a good portion of my evening consumed with it instead of finishing this list. I still don’t have escort cards, I didn’t go to snapfish.com to get signs printed and I missed the Martha Stewart Weddings Fiesta. On a brighter side, I got my nails and eyelashes done yesterday — WOO HOO. Check this Instagram nail video for a fun play by play. Here’s what I’m hoping to accomplish today:
Complete any last-minute packing. No, I didn’t finish that yesterday as planned.
Continue convo with DJ Battle. We still have to review the correct pronunciation of our wedding party names. He doesn’t want to mess anyone’s up and I appreciate his attention to detail.
Write the tribute I plan to give my father in lieu of a traditional father/daughter dance. I’ve been putting this off for months. Let’s see if I can avoid crying while writing it.
Begin a draft for my vows to Mr. TK. We’ve gone back and forth about bespoke vows. I’m personally quite fond of traditional vows but we also like the addition of anything that will make our wedding more “us”… I’ll keep y’all posted.
Review processional logistics with my baby cousin who is singing me down the aisle. Okay he is far from a baby; he’s over six-feet tall, a former Fisk Jubilee singer and runs an elementary school music department. But he’ll always be the baby in our family. He stays with a jam-packed schedule but we must solidify what song he’s singing ASAP.
Accept the fact that some stuff just won’t happen. And that is okay. I had the genius idea of using Metro Cards as escort cards instead of standard plain white ones since Mr. TK and I are bringing New York City to the Queen City (aka Charlotte) of N.C. for the weekend… Problem? This idea hit me about 5AM today. No bueno. It won’t happen. However, I am still excited about our unique table names!
Continue to have an attitude of gratitude. While I have been disappointed by a few folks in my life since getting engaged, (it can hurt to realize you’re not as close to someone as you thought you were or that someone doesn’t seem as happy for you as you thought they would be) I have been equally if not more surprised by the generosity of others. A creative newlywed couple who are also my mom’s neighbors volunteered to create all of our signage. My sister-in-law has been a DIY queen. My college homie Nicole is selflessly going above and beyond to assist with decorations. I could go on… In wedding planning, as in life, you can choose to look at a glass half-empty or half-full. The choice is up to us.
FOUR MORE DAYS!
P.S. – My friend Toya (who is also a talented life coach) couldn’t make it to my bridal shower but last weekend gave me this uber-thoughtful gift — see below — including loose tea, a tea diffuser, an adorable ceramic teapot, a lavender scented candle, milk bath and a motivational book. Swoon!
I just saw the show something borrowed or something new, I love you and your sweet mom, I hope you keep the idea to use your mom dress you look amazing. Also you are an exemplo what is more important Love and family that just money and artificial things, and God bless you in your new life
I am so excited for you. I recently started following your blog. You’ve given me so much inspiration. I wish you and your family the best. Please keep doing what you’re doing. By the way…you chose the correct dress.
Congratulations, you’re almost a married woman! :) God Bless your union! Your last paragraph is so true: “Continue to have an attitude of gratitude”; it’s so important to relish in this new journey in your life. I like you have lost friends since I’ve been engaged and now that I’m 18 days away from my wedding day I have continuously been disappointed by someone who is in my wedding party who I thought was close to me! It’s heartbreaking when you know someone who you thought you were close to is genuinely not happy for you by their actions! I’m choosing to take the higher road and not allow anyone to steal my joy especially since we’re down to the wire! But I will have to access this friendship after the wedding by having a heart to heart with the person. Continue to be extremely grateful for the people who are genuinely happy for you and your fiance! Your blog gives me hope and strength everyday and I’m so happy that I’m not the only bride to be experiencing some of the craziness that comes along with wedding planning! May your wedding be full of LOVE & JOY!! :)
Thanks so much!
Congrats on your recent nuptials! You looked great on TLC by the way. Also, thanks for creating this site. The last part of your post really hit me – realizing that some people aren’t happy for you or not nearly as good of friends as you once expected. This has been the greatest struggle for me. It’s just nice to have someone put it in words.
