Today’s post is the first (of many I hope) from the newest member of the Triple B team, Mabel Martinez. Mabel is an ambitious New York City college senior who has dreams of becoming a fashion journalist after graduation. Please help me welcome her by leaving loads of feedback in the comments section. New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 was in full force earlier this month; showcasing the latest ready-to-wear trends. In addition to ready-to-wear, designers also wowed attendees with gorgeous bridal gowns for soon-to-be blushing brides. From the runway to the aisle, here are the top five trends that Triple B brides should keep in mind when choosing the wedding dress of their dreams.

Marchesa– A celebrity favorite on the red carpet, Marchesa does it again. The collection featured a range of looks with Indian influences from the 1960s. Designers Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman included tunics, saris and capris some with bright hues of pink, burgundy, gold, and white. Going with the Bollywood theme, the trend seen throughout was an array of embellishments and intricate beading. The silhouettes are flattering are practically every silhouette. Models were styled with slick back up do’s and Christian Louboutin flats. For a bride-to-be, one of these gowns should be worn with minimal accessories.

Zac Posen – Posen’s Spring 2013 collection consisted of vintage 1940s inspired flirty gowns. There was lots of tulle, in addition to, sweetheart necklines in a variety of colors like red, nude, navy and white. Each ensemble was accessorized with satin ankle-strap pumps, stud earrings and cat-eye sunglasses. The signature number in the entire collection had to be the finale white-tiered organza ball gown that model, Coco Rocha (above), strutted down the runway wearing. The gown was elaborate and romantic. The entire collection was pure elegance and glamor. Posen has a way of defining a women’s shape in his dresses and he certainly nailed it with this collection!

Monique Lhuillier – This collection featured a plethora of bold prints, sophisticated separates, peplum, leather and lace. The trend seen most throughout the collection was a fit-and-flare bottom. Lhuillier had many aquatic inspired pieces in a variety of hues that gave a surprising splash of color. Brides-to-be, consider the fit-and-flare silhouette when picking a gown. It is flattering and more unique than an ordinary dress. Lhuiller’s white strapless gown had a flared bottom that was sexy, feminine and perfect for a spring or summer wedding.

Oscar de la Renta – Recently, we have seen more brides opt for a dress in a color other than white. Oscar de la Renta’s latest collection includes bold hues from pinks to blues. Oscar de la Renta wasn’t afraid to have fun. He featured 1960s inspired silhouettes, embellished strapless gowns that all gave a retro yet glam, flirty vibe. For the non-traditional bride who wants color on her wedding dress but still wants to look elegant and glamorous, take a few ideas from this collection. The statuesque model, Karlie Kloss, closed the show with a stunning silver airy strapless ball gown. The gown was high in the front and had a wide train in the back.

Jason Wu – Wu, who rapidly rose to fame after designing First Lady Michelle Obama’s ivory inaugural ball gown in 2009 ― featured a sexy and somewhat dramatic collection. The designer included leather, lace, lingerie and lots of tulle pieces all inspired by Helmut Newton’s and Lillian Bassman photography. In fact, the fabric seemingly used most was tulle — a bridal fave. One of the dazzling numbers from the collection is a navy tulle gown with dotted stars and halter straps. The glitter on gown gives it a whimsical appeal.
