Cousin Mars posed this question on Twitter last week so I thought I’d have you guys weigh in here, too. What are your thoughts on Jack & Jill bachelor/bachelorette parties? I personally think they’re a good idea (I’m always up for a fun game night!) especially if the bride and groom’s friends are already cool or the nearlyweds want their respective loved ones to get to know each other better before the big day. But realistically I think the couple still ends up doing their own thing without their spouse to be in addition to the Jack & Jill shindig. Leave me (and Cousin Mars) a comment with your thoughts below. And definitely let me know if you’ve ever attended one before. Tell the truth — was it fun or were guests scared to let their guards down?
By the way, get ideas on awesome bachelorette activities here.
Sound off, folks!
I’ve attending one of these. It appeared to me that everyone had a blast except for the soon to be groom. A few people started relationships that night. Better than the love connections that began, was the opportunity for both groups of friends to get to know the other side better.
@Erica J – I don’t recall ever attending one but they do seem like fun. I just don’t think they’re a realistic replacement for the traditional separate festivities… My married male friends have told me about the shenanigans that can go down at bachelor affairs and I don’t think their wives would have wanted to witness them. ;-) But the latter part of your comment is golden.
Sounds like fun! I’ve never been to one but I’ll definitely consider one for my next marriage. (I’m presently divorced.)
Why not? Couples even go to strip clubs together nowadays so I don’t see the big deal.
I would consider having one. I think it could be fun. My boyfriend has some friends that my girls have been checking out…like Erica said – it could be a love connection for several people.
Hey. I expected more responses. I’m sure many more have an opinion on something like this…changing the game as we currently know it. Personally, I don’t think I’d be interested in the Jack & Jill style. Depending on the couple, this could be cool. In fact, it would probably save a good amount of money.
@BK1 – Go for it!
@LaShawn – Valid point. However I still feel like the majority of heterosexual women who visit strip clubs to watch women strip are doing it because it has become a trend rather than genuine desire. In addition, I don’t know any man who wants to watch his fiancee getting a strip tease or much less turned on by another man. I personally don’t enjoy watching male strippers but many engaged women make them a significant part of their bachelorette festivities. Are these same women really gonna “make it rain” for these dudes while their future spouse is watching?
@Meeka – Yeah the love connection aspect is something I hadn’t thought about until reading Erica’s comment.
@Cousin Mars – Hey! Yeah, A J&J function could def. be a money saver…
Me, I’m an old person…I believe in handwritten notes, no dudes at baby showers and separate bachelor/-ette festivities. Not only do I not want to go to a strip club and watch another woman attempt to stimulate my man (fail on her part!), I’m sure he doesn’t want me there if that were to take place. We have a firm ‘look but don’t touch’ rule for his party; mine is just going to be a spa day or cooking class (as suggested by BBB in a past post). Each couple has to set their own boundaries. It’s ok to have a good time so long as you are always respecting your partner.
@Ronda – “Each couple has to set their own boundaries. It’s ok to have a good time so long as you are always respecting your partner.” <---THIS!
