Last weekend I attended the Style to the Aisle, A Bride’s Runway event at L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, D.C. Created by Michelle Davis of Memorable Moments Event Planning Co. in Baltimore, MD, this one-of-a-kind bridal fashion event brings brides face to face with designers, bridal boutiques, models, photographers, makeup artists and hair stylists. This event is different from most bridal shows/expos in that it is centered around Michelle’s belief that the aisle is a bride’s personal runway and every bride is a celebrity on their special day. Who can argue with that?
Upon arrival guests had their picture taken red carpet style as they entered the “style lounge” full of vendors from photo booth rentals to makeup artists to bridal jewelry and accessories. Guests were treated to several on-site complimentary services. The style lounge was also the perfect place to chat one on one with health and beauty experts. In addition, there were plenty of tasty hors d’oeuvres and yummy cocktails courtesy of Chambord. While perusing the various vendors in attendance, I had the opportunity to play around with Petal Pushers Hair Accessories. Accompanied by professional hair stylist Roshaunda Jenkins, the Petal Pushers designers helped me pick out a really cute hair accessory. Early on in my planning process I decided against wearing a veil on my wedding day so I was excited to see what how Roshaunda would style my hair using the unique flower clip. View the video below and let me know what you think – yay or nay?
After mingling for an hour or so, it was time to head into the ballroom for the bridal fashion show. Magnificently designed and decorated the runway looked like something straight out of NY Fashion Week, complete with swag bags awaiting each guest as we took our seats. The show was hosted by Charreah Jackson, relationship editor of Essence.com and began with a mesmerizing belly dancing performance. Continuing in the vein of the bride’s personal runway, first up were the bridal boudoir looks followed by bridal party and groomswear. Each look represented unique styles to compliment a bride’s particular taste. The bridal looks ranged from fun & flirty to regal & elegant. My favorites were some of the destination wedding looks. I definitely saw quite a few that I would proudly rock while reciting my vows on a Caribbean beach. The show ended with several honeymoon looks, both private and public.
Style to the Aisle is a great event for helping brides hone in on the unique look and feel of their special day. In its third year, Style to the Aisle will be heading to Charlotte, N.C. in September 2013. For more information and to keep up with other events, visit their website.
Have you attended any bridal shows in preparation for your big day or the wedding of a loved one? How would you describe your wedding day look?
This post made me think back to my own wedding day! Thanks for causing a good memory.
@Janeane – I’m glad Triple B was able to help conjure up some good memories for ya!
Yay for the flower clip! That hair style is so becoming on you.
@Anon – I agree!
The video was a great addition. It really brought the show to life. Also yay on the up-do!
I had a very different bridal experience because we eloped.
I bought a $99 dress from White House Black Market, we rented a vacation house and found a minister online who we paid from Paypal.
I don’t regret our low-key wedding and I respect all of the ladies who want a blow out/big celebration!
@Stacy – Thx for the feedback. Expect more videos on Triple B in the near future.
@Joyce – I LOVE it! Thanks for sharing your wedding story.
This was one of the most fabulous bridal shows I’ve participated in, love seeing the brooch bouquets go down the runway with all those gorgeous dresses. Thanks for the lovely video.
